Introduction

• I chose to do ancient epypt food because, it’s an essential part ot living and I wanted to learn more about this topic.Food in eygpt was based on depended on wether you were rich or poor, and the way you ate also affected how long you lived. So I will show you how this basic need affected ancient eygpt.

• Because Egypt was very dry all crops and plants relied on the Nile River for water

• The Nile River supplied water for the crops and fish suchs as catfish, mullet, bolt and perch

• The Nile River started a new way of life for the eygpptians. Instead of hunting and following animals for food they started growing crops which allowed them to stay in one place

• The menues in eygpt varied between the rich and poor

Wheat and Barley• Because eygpt was very

dry, only certain kinds of crops were able to be grown

• The main food they grew was wheat and barley

• Wheat was used to make porridge, bread and soup

• Barley was used to make beer and bread, which was the basic diet of the eygptians

• The bottem left picture is a picture of clay beer jars

Meat• Eygptians had butchers who

supplied meat to the public• Some of the meat included

beef, mutton, fish, pigeons, and goat

• Most common people could not afford meat

• Eygptians didn’t eat pigs because they were thought to have had leporsy (disease)

• Meat would be prepared in many different f ways like boiling for stew, roasting, salting, drying, and smoking.

Fruits

• The main fruits eaten of the eygptians were grapes, plums, dates, and watermelons

• All fruits and vegetables were irrigated by hand

• Archaeologists have found seed in graves- believed to have been from watermelons and other melons

Vegetables• Vegetables were irrigated

by hand and was another important part of the eygptian diet

• The main vegetables eaten were beat, sweety onions, radishes, turnips, garlic. lettuce, chick peas, beans, lentils,and cucumbers

• Many eygptians had gardensd adjacent to their homes

• Garlic was highly valued to eygptians and was used in temples

Honey• Honey was used in for

many different purposes• Because sugar was not

available, honey was used to bring up the sweetness in breads and cakes

• Honey was also used in may different medicnes because it was believed to have ahad healing powers

• Bee’s wax was used for ship building, mumification, medicnes and other boonding purposes
