Ancient Egypt was divided into two regions, namely Upper Egypt and Lower Egypt.
The two kingdoms of Upper and Lower Egypt were united, but each maintained its
own regalia: hite !rown for Upper Egypt and the "ed !rown for Lower Egypt. Thus,
the pharaohs were known as the rulers of the Two Lands, and wore the pschent, a
double crown, each half representing sovereignty of one of the kingdoms.
According to #idrash Lekach Tov, #oshe asked $ashem to send #ashiach. #oshewas also hinting to $ashem to spare the %ewish people the Egyptian bondage and
allow them to immediately e&perience the ultimate redemption through #ashiach.
That give us understanding that there are two Egyptians e&iles which the %ewish
nation have to e&perience. The e&ile of Lower Egypt corresponding to emotional
construct of physical labor and e&ile of Upper Egypt corresponding to mental
construct of #ind control.
Thus, our sages note, '(d only gave the latter seven nations to the %ews in the time
of #oses, and we will inherit the land of the other three nations in the future, when
#ashiach comes. )*ereishit "abba ++:-. /n the world of Tohu, which collapsed, the
full breakage of the vessels occurred only in the seven lower se0rot, from chesed tomalchut. hen the vessels of these se0rot broke, they could contain nothing of the
holy 1lights1 that had been in them. These lights therefore left the vessels, and the
broken vessels fell into the lower worlds, becoming the source of all the
egocentricity and evil of these worlds. 12f the cities of these peoples whom '(d is
giving you to inherit, you shall leave no soul alive. "ather, you must wipe them out:
the $ittite, the Amorite, the !anaanite, the 3eri4ite, the $ivite, and the %ebusite, as
'(d has commanded you.1 )5eut. 6:78(79. ince the shattered fragments of the
emotions )middot of Tohu are embedded in our world, we can re0ne them and
elevate them.
/n the 0rst three se0rot of Tohu, the vessels were more spiritual than they were in
the lower seven se0rot. ome of the holiness remained in them and thiscorresponds to 0rat ;ogah, where good mi&ed with evil. That is why the Erev "av
became a nation as soon as they left with %ewish people, and since they drive their
sustenance from the Tree of 5aat they became the ne&t %ewish e&ile corresponding
to the Upper Egypt.
Their and of the Law of #oshe were the cause of
much of the su?ering the %ews in the desert and all a way to the modern history. The
0rst and most heinous of these instances was the creation of the 'olden !alf, which
was in essence a of the role of #oses )Torah Law as the
intermediate between '(d and /srael. As nothing new under the sun, we also build a
'olden calf under their guidance. /t is called a tate of /srael. /n our time, th /srastate of /srael is claiming to be a %ewish tate but in reality does everything to
profane the purpose of the %ewish ;ation. @es, thats the golden calf and it is a
symbol of the Erev "av since they were the ones responsible for it in the 0rst place.
hat sin did the /sraelites commit thenB They stood by and watched and didnt say
anything against it.
This is simply because emotions, the lower seven se0rot, are much more sub=ective
than intellect or super(intellect )the 0rst three se0rot. The elevation and re0nement

of the intellect and super(intellect of Tohu will occur only in the 0nal redemption,
when we will be able to eliminate the negative aspects of these se0rot as well. The
holiness will completely depart from these se0rot, and thus we will then be
commanded to 1leave no soul alive1 of them, as well.
/n the book of 'enesis, '(d promises to Abraham the land of !anaan, which
comprises the territory of ten nations: the Cenites, the Ceni4ites, the Cadmonites, the $ittites, the 3eri4ites, the "efaim, the Amorites, the !anaanites, the 'irgashites,
and the %ebusites. )'en. 7D:7(7 The last three were synonymous with the
Ammonites, #oabites, and Edomites.
/n the time of #oses, however, whenever the Torah lists the peoples of !anaan
whose land '(d will give to the %ewish people, only the last seven of these ten are
mentioned. The %ewish people are commanded to entirely wipe out these seven
nations: 12f the cities of these peoples whom '(d is giving you to inherit, you shall
leave no soul alive. "ather, you must wipe them out: the $ittite, the Amorite, the
!anaanite, the 3eri4ite, the $ivite, and the %ebusite, as '(d has commanded you.1
The e&planation is that the seven nations are Fthe earthly manifestations ofG theseven evils, i.e. the vessels that broke. Thus, all the holiness Fthat was originally in
themG has left them.
These Fthree nationsG are synonymous with eir, Ammon, and #oab. eir alludes to
the 0rst Fse0ra, keterG, as it is written, 1and the he(goat Fin $ebrew, 1seir1G is the
kingH1 )5aniel I:7. Ceter1 literally means 1crown1 and is thus the sign of kingship.
eir, signi0es keter, or the super(intellect, of Tohu.
#oab means 1from the father1 Fin $ebrew, 1mei(av1G and thus alludes to chochma.
Lots daughter conceived her son by her own father. hen she named him, she
e&pressed this in the name she gave him, since #oab means 1from the father1. The
people of #oab descended from this incestuous union. Abba )1father1 is the part4uf
of chochma and thus this nation alludes to the chochma of Tohu.
FThe nameG Ammon Fpermutes to spellG 1noam1 Fwhich means 1pleasantness1G,
alluding to bina. hen the insight is integrated into the e&isting mental structure,
which is the function of bina. The new, higher perception of reality that is produced
engenders a sensation of pleasure and happiness. /n a similar fashion, we are
taught that the liJuid that corresponds to chochma is water, while that which
corresponds to bina is wine.
;ow, when the Torah describes how the %ewish people were not to wage war against
Ammon and #oab, it points out that these lands were formerly occupied by the
"efaim. /n the course of this discussion, the Torah makes mention of the fact that
the "efaim who formerly occupied the land of #oab were also called Eimites )5eut.
:76(77, and those who formerly occupied the land of Ammon were also called
Kam4umites )5eut. :6.
The Kam4umites personi0ed the evil portion of chochma Fof TohuG that was
removed, as it is written, 1as he schemed1 Fin $ebrew, 14amam1G )5eut. 7:7. The
