It was very popular in Ancient Egypt to be a farmer. They grew barley to make bear, wheat for bread, vegetables such as onions and cucumbers, and flax to make into linen. They made their crops on the banks of the Nile River where the good black soil was good for crops.

There were a lot of craftsmen jobs. They included carpenters, weavers, jewellers, leather workers, and potters. How skilled a craftsman was would last longer in a job.

Soldiers

Ancient Egyptian soldiers were the main people of ancient Egypt and made it a great civilization. The military might of ancient Egypt was what translated the pharaoh's ideas and tactics into a reality. It is also one of the things that kept ancient Egypt continuous for over 3,000 years.

Mummification

It was very important to ancient Egyptian religious beliefs that the human body was preserved. A method of artificial preservation, called mummification was developed by the ancient Egyptians. Mummification was a complicated and lengthy process which lasted up to 70 days.

The Egyptians believed in life after death.

They believed that they had to preserve their bodies so they could use them in the afterlife

How they got payed and what they got payed?

During most of ancient Egypt's history, there was no money as such, at least in the form of coinage (and paper bills were far in the future). Not until the middle of the first millennium BC were any coins used in Egypt, and at first, they were usually of foreign mint. In fact, most of the information related to wages, pricing and payments are more related to in weights and measurements. They also used animals and food and stuff like that.

Did they go to school?

If your parents wanted you to have a career they would send you to school. Some schools are run by priests. Children start when their young but girls stop going when they turn twelve. If your parents were poor they would only send you for a few years. In class they wrote on plastered boards or stone. If they didn’t listen they got beaten.

How did they go shopping?

They would trade item that they had for something that they wanted. It took them a long time to make a deal. The buyer would give the seller more depending on what they were trying to buy.

what were the houses made out of?

The bricks were made out of mud and chopped straws. They mixed the mud and straw and then they poured the mixture into moulds.

How do we know this information today?

We found the information from people that have been there and studied Egypt and have put it in books or on the internet. They would of found the information from bits of towns that are still around. There are also people that have made paintings about them.

What did Egyptians Wear?

Girls wore a large rectangle piece of transparent linen, it had a hole for their head to go through, they would then wrap it and fasten it in a knot below their chest. Men (who work.) wear linen like a skirt wrapped around their waist . Classier clothes men would wear are pleated linen tied in a large loop that falls to the knee. They also wear belts and jewellery.

Did they use cosmetics?

Yes, both men and woman wore makeup. Men mostly wore eyeliner. girls wore eyeliner as well as, henna to paint their nails and to redden their hair, paint to darken their eyebrows, and black powder to put on their eye lashes.

What jewellery did they wear?

All Egyptians wore jewellery whether you were rich or poor, they would wear rings, necklaces and ear studs, either made of gold or just beads.

Did pharaohs wear different clothes to the rest of the citizens?

Yes, pharaohs wore things such as false beards, bulls tails and they held a crook. They also wore crowns, capes, lots of jewellery and sandals. They’d also wear similar linen to other Egyptians but they’d wear some sort of special belt.

Did their clothes have anything to do with the gods?

Animal skins, mostly leopard skins were worn by people like priests, pharaohs etc., in their role as servants of the gods.

How do we know this information today?

There wasn’t many physical copies of the clothes Ancient Egyptians wore, but there was paintings and sculptures indicating what they wore, their was also scrap bits of their clothing that would have been found .

Religion

The religion in Ancient Egypt was filled with polytheistic beliefs, beliefs of gods and life after death. They made offerings to gods with foods, drinks and treasure. In their religion they believed that a dead person had many souls, including “Ka” and “Ba” who helped them on their journey to the afterlife.

Gods (Deities)

They had lots of gods, some of them are Ra, Osiris, Seth, Isis, Horus, Thoth, Anubis, Hathor, Tauert and Bes. If they needed help from a god they would carve the prayer into a stone tablet and place it on an offering table.

Osiris

Osiris is the god of the afterlife, ruler of the dead, god of resurrection and fertility. Osiris was most loved, he died and returned to life, that gave hope to the Egyptians of an afterlife. He gave the Egyptians the gift of barley. A large temple in Abydos was built in honour of him.

How do we know this information today?We know about the Ancient Egypt religion because of the Pyramids and how much time and effort they put into building them. Also because of the amulets, pendants and scripts/paintings. We know about the gods because of hieroglyphics and drawings.

Women In Society

Poor WomenPoor Egyptian women didn’t have must rights as wealthy women. Poor women had use any and all food there could have. All day poor women work by making breakfast, going to market, cleaning the house, joining neighbours to spin cloths, then make supper, go to bed on the floor and started again. Some or most poor women did jobs like make beer and bread, servant, temple dancer, perfume maker, musician, weaver and mourner who weep at funerals.

Wealthy women

After 1500bc wealthy Egyptian women had lots of rights. There could have land or sell it. Also decide who their belongings go to when they die and defend themselves in court. If there wanted to get a divorce there could and choose who get custody of the kids. Egyptian women had lots more rights than Greece women. Even Greece who are wealthy were made to live indoors and are by their husband. Greece did not have lots of freedom. First born wealthy Egyptian women in the family was the high priestess most of the time. Wealthy Egyptian women took over control of the estates when the husband was away. Being the high priestess people dress you and carried you to the temple.

Women back in ancient Egypt times where expected to get married and have a family in there early teens, they became mothers in a couple of years. Family life was generally happy because the Egyptians believed that happiness and joy goals of life children were also love equally. Marriage was not a special event for Egypt there was not even a word in the Egyptian language for wedding.

ClothesEgyptian women wash before there got dress. Wealthy women had a tiled area to wash. Their clothes were large rectangle of transparent linen with a hole in the central for the head. Egyptian women wearied wigs made of hair. If you are poor or not you would have rings, necklaces and ear-studs made out of gold or beads.

Cleopatra ruled Egypt 51bc to 30bc she was very smart she wanted to rule independently. When Julius Caesar came to Egypt 48bc . Him and Cleopatra overthrow her brother. She went Rome for two years until Julius Caesar was dead by assassination. She married Mark Antony and made the roman mad. Roman start a war on Egypt. In the end Cleopatra kill herself.

• They milked cows, goats and sheep. Donkeys were not milked because they were holy.

• Wine was drunk by rich people. Wine was labelled and kept for many years like high quality wine today.

Hi today we are talking about the houses and buildings in ancient

Egypt.

How many people lived in a house/building?

In poor parts some houses were crammed with 7 families because there was not much land for houses because no one wanted to live in the desert and the

fertile land near the river was used to grow food.

What do they use as furniture?

Some houses only had a few stools and some small tables where they ate a meal. There were no cupboards

and their belongings were kept in wooden chests, baskets and jars. An ordinary family would only have

one bed or none at all. People would sleep on the floor or on the roof with mats.

What size were the buildings/houses?

Houses were all joined together and all the houses were similar. Some town houses were 2 or 3 stories high.

What were their houses made out of?

Every house was made out of straw and mud bricks , only temples and tombs were built out of stone They invented moulds to make bricks they could only make

one brick at a time.

What type of houses did they live in?

A wealthy house has more rooms: guest rooms, a set of private rooms for the owner and another for the women in the house. The floors were tiled with coloured ceilings and walls with gaily painted boarders of ducks and lotus

petals.

Were their houses dark or did they have access to light inside?

Obviously at night time they had no access to light but during the day or when the sun was out they got light

through little windows that were up high for light and to keep out dust, heat and glare.

how do we know this information?

We know this information because of archaeologist that have dug up houses and pieces of furniture and

examined houses that are still standing.

•YES, THEY DID HAVE PETS. ANCIENT EGYPTIANS HAD FALCONS, GEESE, DUCKS, TURTLE DOVES, GAZELLES, LIONS, MONKEYS, MONGEESE, CATS, AND DOGS. THEY WOULD JUST WALK AROUND THE NEIGHBERHOOD AND TRY AND FIND FOOD.

DID THEY HAVE NUDIST DANCERS IN THE ANCIENT EGYPTIAN TIME?

DANCING PLAYED A VITAL ROLE IN THE LIVES OF THE ANCIENT EGYPTIANS. ALL SOCIAL CLASSES WERE EXPOSED TO MUSIC AND DANCING. “THE LABORERS WORKED IN RHYTHMIC MOTION TO THE SOUNDS OF SONGS AND PERCUSSION, AND STREET DANCERS ENTERTAINED PASSERS BY. THE TRF WAS A DANCE PERFORMED BY A PAIR OF MEN DURING THE OLD KINGDOM. DANCE GROUPS PERFORMED AT DINNER PARTIES, BANQUETS, LODGING HOUSES, AND EVEN RELIGIOUS TEMPLES.

WHAT SPORTS DID THEY PLAY IN ANCIENT EGYPT?

• MANY OF TODAY'S SPORTS WERE PRACTICED BY THE ANCIENT EGYPTIANS, WHO SET THE RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THEM. INSCRIPTIONS ON MONUMENTS INDICATE THAT THEY PRACTICED WRESTLING, WEIGHTLIFTING, LONG JUMP, SWIMMING, ROWING, SHOOTING, FISHING AND ATHLETICS, AS WELL AS VARIOUS KINDS OF BALL GAMES.

HOCKEY.

ANCIENT EGYPTIANS PLAYED A GAME THAT IS SIMILAR TO HOCKEY. DRAWINGS ON TOMBS GOVERNORATE SHOW PLAYERS HOLDING BATS MADE OF LONG PALM-TREE BRANCHES, WITH A BENT END SIMILAR TO THAT OF THE HOCKEY BAT. THE HOCKEY BALL WAS MADE OF COMPRESSED PAPYRUS FIBERS COVERED WITH TWO PIECES OF LEATHER IN THE SHAPE OF A SEMICIRCLE. THE BALL WAS DYED IN TWO OR MORE COLORS.

HOW DID THE ANCIENT EGYPTIAN ACTERS DRESS UP.

• EGYPTIAN CLOTHING WAS FILLED WITH A VARIETY OF COLORS. MADE WITH GEMS AND JEWELS, THE FASHIONS OF THE ANCIENT EGYPTIANS WERE MADE FOR NOT ONLY BAEUTY BUT ALSO COMFORT. EGYPTIAN FASHION WAS CREATED TO KEEP COOL WHILE IN THE HOT DESERT.

WHAT ENTERTAINING JOBS DID THEY HAVE

• WOMEN DID MOST OF THE JOBS THE SKILLED WOMEN DID THE HARDER JOBS LIKE WEAVING MOURNING AND MUSIC THE UN SKILLED WORKERS DID JOBS LIKE DOMESTIC HELPERS AND HOUSE WORKERS. THE SKILLED WOMEN ALSO WORKED FOR IMPORTANT WOMAN AND THEY DON’T KNOW IF THEY WORKED FOR MEN BUT THEY NO THAT THE REALLY IMPORTANT WOMEN WORKED FOR THE IMPORTANT MEN.

• DRAWING ON WALLS. PICTURES AND PAINTINGS, ESTIMATIONS ON WHAT THEY DID AND HOW THEY DRESSED, JEWELLY AND ARTS LEFT BEHIND GAVE THEM EVIDENCE FOR THERE ESTIMATION.

WHY WAS THE NILE SO IMPORTANT TO EGYPTIANS?

The Nile river was so important to the Egyptians because it kept them alive and their knowledge grew. They used it for food, water, transportation and much more. They actually thought it was a god. It flooded once a year, so it kept the crops fertile and healthy.

HOW LONG IS THE NILE RIVER?

The Nile river is 6,650 km long (4132 miles)

WHERE IS THE NILE RIVER?

The Nile river is in Africa. It originates in Burundi, south of the equator, and flows northward through north eastern Africa, eventually flowing through Egypt and finally draining into the Mediterranean Sea.

WHY DID THE NILE RIVER FLOOD?

When then snow melted and the heavy summer rain came down in the Ethiopian Mountains sent a torrent of water causing the banks of the Nile river in Egypt to overflow.

WAS THERE A NILE GOD?

There was a Nile god. His name was Hapi.
