Course Content: This course provides a basic study of the structure and function of the

human body. Topics covered include: the basic organization of the body, anatomical terminology, major body systems, and various diseases and disorders. Students are expected to employ proper lab procedures per

the safety contract. Some of the laboratory exercises will include dissection of animal specimens.

Textbook & Tablet: Please bring your textbook and tablet to class daily.

Grading : A = 90-100 B = 80-89 C = 70-79 D = 60-69 F = 59 and below

Grades for each quarter are based on a total points system with a majority of points typically coming from unit tests, labs, and projects. Points may also be earned from daily work (such as in-class assignments, homework, bell work, and quizzes). The percentage breakdown for the final grade is as follows: 40% first quarter grade, 40% second quarter grade, 20% final exam. The science department retest policy allows students to choose to retest/correct two tests per nine weeks, if the original score is below 70%. All retests/corrections may only change grade up to a 70%. Upon receiving the test grade, students have one week to complete the retest/corrections. The grade-reporting schedule is listed on the school calendar. Please check the handbook for details regarding Individual Learning Time (ILT) and Structured Learning Time (SLT) during the last thirty minutes of lunch.

Lesson P lans & Absence Po l i cy : • Lesson plans can be found in three different places – Planbook, the

agenda posted in the classroom, and in the Lesson Plan binder in the classroom.

• According to the student handbook, a student who misses a class must make up all class work missed within five (5) days.

• If you are absent, be sure to check the agenda and look in the drawers at the front of the classroom for any handouts you may have missed. If you missed notes, then check the Notes binder in the classroom. Don’t forget to turn in any assignments that were due while you were gone. If you missed a lab or test, be sure to make arrangements with Mrs. Cothern.
