The Display Board
The display board should be organized, neatly done, and free of unnecessary information.
It should display the Problem, Hypothesis, Experimental Design, Materials and Procedure, Data, Results, and Conclusion.
Display Board Overview:Display Board Overview: Note the display number. Make sure you, as a Note the display number. Make sure you, as a judge, put the display number in the upper right hand corner of the judge, put the display number in the upper right hand corner of the
scoring rubric for that student.scoring rubric for that student.
Problem
The problem should be in the form of a question that the student is seeking an answer to.
Hypothesis
The hypothesis should be a declarative sentence in which the student attempts to answer the problem after having done extensive research before beginning experimentation.
Experimental Design (Variables)
Has 4 main parts: Control group (the part of the experiment that
stays the same) Experimental Group (the part of the experiment
that is being tested/changed in one way or another)
Independent Variable (the change you are making to the experimental group)
Dependent Variable (the variable that is being observed, which changes in response to the independent variable.
EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN
Materials and Procedure
Each project should have a list of materials.
Each project should have a comprehensive procedure so that anyone can reproduce the experiment.
DATA
In the form of charts, graphs, statistics, photos. Projects must have quantitative measurements
(numbers). Information should be in evidence on the display
board, in the log book, and in the experimental report.
The charts and graphs should in an understandable format.
DATA CHART:
Results or Summary
This section should be a description of the results (what happened) from the experiment.
RESULTS
Conclusion
The conclusion should tell whether the original hypothesis is supported by the data collected, and why or why not.
CONCLUSION
Logbook
Handwritten. Should be orderly. Should have all parts of the science fair in it
from the beginning conceptual stage to the conclusion.
This year, students began their research in January.
Abstract
The abstract summarizes the entire project in 250 words.
The abstract includes the purpose, hypothesis, procedure, and results.
Experimental Report
Should be a typewritten report that mirrors the display board and also includes a comprehensive bibliography.
