The Advocacy ProcessOur lobbyists are charged by the Board ofDirectors as the first line of defense of ourpractice.
Government Relations Committee develops key contacts and relationshipwith legislators with the help of NCANA lobbyists and NCANA PAC.
NCANA PAC provides financial support to candidates and legislators who have been identified by our lobbyists and GRC asfriends of CRNA practice, holding key positions of leadership andon committees affecting healthcare in our state.
Short Sessions, Long Sessions and Committees
Short session - convenes April 25th, 2016-mostly budgetary and housekeeping issues
(hopefully no substantial legislation directly affecting CRNAs is introduced)
-Medicaid reform or reimbursement issues warrant close attention
-goal on the short session is roughly 6-8wks

Long session - begins in January of odd numbered
years- generally last six months or more- this is when most legislation is
introduced, debated and passed

When legislation is introduced in generally goes to the committee most appropriate to deal with that issue.

Non Standing Committees- set up to explore specific issues- meet when legislature is not in session- provide recommendations on future
legislation- Joint Oversight Committee on Health

How Can I Be Involved?- Sign up to be a key legislative contact- Come to Raleigh to have our lobbyists introduce you
to your representatives- Support CRNA friendly candidates- Attend Capitol Day on Wednesday May 18th and
make plans to attend the legislative reception the evening before to meet other active CRNAs and nurses as well as legislators
- Become a regular contributor to NCANA PAC- Attend events for legislators and candidates in your
local area
