Greetings to all!!It is always very exhilarating to watch the progress of Anand Pharmacy Collge. The progress of Anand Pharmacy College has been personally witnessed by me. The inspiring progress of the institute is due to the dedication of the faculties and the students which has lead the institute to reach at pinnacle of success. The institute has always proven it's strength in academics, research, co-curricular as well as extracurricular activities.

This newsletter is the reflection of the success of both the institute as well as individual faculty and students. It highlights the effort which has been incorporated by the APC family during the course of one year time period. I congratulate the editorial team of MANTHAN for showcasing the achievements and new ventures of the institute.

Anand Pharmacy College, the institution striving towards the accomplishment of global excellence in field of education and research, is the sole self-financed pharmacy institute across the Gujarat to receive the Student Start-up & Innovation Policy (SSIP) grant. On 26th September, 2017, Dr. Tejal R. Gandhi, Principal, was felicitated with the first disbursement of INR 10,00,000 out of 60,00,000, SSIP grant by Hon. CM Shri Vijay Rupani at the grant disbursement ceremony under SSIP and inauguration of Smart Gujarat for New India Hackathon - 2017. The main objectives of the grant includes creating awareness about start up, entrepreneurship and IPR, national Conference, state level seminar, entrepreneur Awareness Camp, sessions/guest lectures etc. Under this scheme, students will be facilitated to pre-incubate innovative ideas and to go through a stage of proof of

concept, prototype, product, testing & trial, redesign and development of utility. Students will be motivated to tinker and transform their concept into reality and have the maximum benefit of the tinkering laboratories having state-of-the-art sophisticated equipment at the research center. Moreover, financial assistance will be provided for innovative ideas and patents from the young minds and help to furnish and remodel it, commercialize it.

New Initiative

Continuing Education

ENTREPRENEURSHIP AWARENESS CAMPWith an aim to explore entrepreneurship as an alternative career opportunity, Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp (EAC), sponsored by the National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB), and Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI), was organized on 29th to 31st, August 2017. Dr. Tejal Gandhi was the chief coordinator of this camp and Dr. Purvi Shah & Mr. Sandip Patel were coordinators where total 76 participants were benefited.

GUJARAT STATE PHARMACY COUNCIL (GSPC) SPONSORED TWO DAYS REFRESHER COURSETwo days Refresher course was organized for Registered Pharmacist on 16th & 17th September 2017 under the auspicious support of Gujarat State Pharmacy Council. Dr. Tejal R. Gandhi was course director; Mr. Hitesh G. Raval was Course co- ordinator and Mr. Hardik Rana was Co-coordinator of the function. Total 95 Registered pharmacist form industry, academic, community and hospital pharmacist had attended GSPC refresher course.

STATE LEVEL SEMINAR ON “INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS”A State level seminar on "Intellectual Property Rights" sponsored by SSIP, Govt. of Gujarat aimed to increase awareness and understanding of Intellectual Property (IP) as well as promote innovation and creativity was organized on November 29th, 2017. Dr. Purvi Shah was the coordinator, Mrs. Veena Patel and Ms. Hiteksha Panchal were co-coordinators. Total 201 participants were benefitted from this seminar.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON “STARTUP : IGNITING INNOVATIONS & LEADERSHIP”A National level seminar on "Startup: Igniting Innovations & Leadership" sponsored by SSIP, Govt. of Gujarat was held on January 18th, 2018. The Seminar aimed to put some direct emphasis on the youth entrepreneurship and giving an assistance to all the talented startups to look so far to lead India. Dr. Purvi Shah was the coordinator of this seminar and Mrs Veena Patel and Ms. Hiteksha Panchal were co-coordinators. 251 participants from across the Gujarat were benefitted.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP AWARENESS CAMP - 2018'Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp' was organized from 1st to 3rd February 2018 sponsored by National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (EDI) and Entrepreneurship Development Institute and supported by Student Startup & Innovation Policy (SSIP), Govt of Gujarat. Dr. Tejal Gandhi was the Chief coordinator and Dr. Purvi Shah & Mr. Sandip Patel were Coordinators of this camp. Total 105 participants were benefited by this camp.

GUJCOST SPONSORED NATIONAL SEMINAR ON “DATA INTEGRITY AND QUALITY METRICS: REGULATORY COMPLIANCE”

A National seminar on "Data integrity and Quality metrics: Regulatory Compliance" sponsored by GUJCOST was held on 20th February 2018. The seminar enabled each of the participants to discuss, share and clarify various concepts like Data Integrity, Recent Regulatory Expectations, Calculation of Quality Metrics and Regulatory Compliance for Pharmaceutical Industries. Dr. Kalpana Patel coordinated the seminar. Dr. Purvi Shah and Mrs. Jigisha Patel were the co- coordinators. Total 88 participants were benefited by this seminar.

GTU TECHFEST 2018 ZONE- 3GTU Techfest 2018 Zone- 3 was held on 22nd February, 2018 under the auspicious patronage of Gujarat Technological University. Mr. Hitesh G. Raval (Asst. Professor, Anand), Mr. Hardik Rana (Asst. Professor) and Mr. Devang Tandel (Asst. professor) were Co-ordinators of event. Total 480 students participated in different events from pharmacy colleges across the Gujarat.

GUJCOST SPONSORED NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON “ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKS (ANNs) AND RESPONSE SURFACE METHODOLOGY (RSM): IMPORTANT TOOL IN OPTIMIZATION OF PHARMACEUTICALFORMULATION AND PROCESS”

GUJCOST sponsored one day National Workshop on “Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) and Response Surface Methodology (RSM): Important tool in optimization of pharmaceutical formulation and process” was organized on23rd February 2018 otal 77 participants were benefited by this workshop. Dr. Vaishali Thakkar was the in which tcoordinator and Mrs. Dipika Chavda was the co-coordinator.

GUJARAT STATE PHARMACY COUNCIL (GSPC) SPONSORED TWO DAYS REFRESHER COURSE & PHARMACY REGISTRATION RENEWAL CAMP

Two days Refresher course for Registered Pharmacist on 3rd - 4th March 2018 was organized under the auspicious patronage of Gujarat State Pharmacy Council. Dr. Tejal R. Gandhi was Course director; Mr. Hitesh G. Raval was Course co-ordinator and Mr. Hardik Rana was Co-coordinator of the function. Total 99 Registered pharmacist from industry, academic, community and hospital pharmacist had attended and total 113 pharmacists had renewed their license at renewal camp.

WORKSHOP ON “ICT: A TEACHING TOOL FOR PROFICIENT PEDAGOGY”The ICT (Information and communications technology) enables the teachers learn the newer teaching methods using the digital brain computer out breaking the mundane styles. Workshop on ICT: A teaching tool for proficient pedagogy" was organised on 21st March, 2018 sponsored by SSIP, Govt. of Gujarat. 67 teachers and educators from vivid field had attended the workshop.

Mr. Kapil Dev Jhawar, Associate CPM Director, Quintiles IMS, Ahmedabad, enlightened students on, "Essential documents in Clinical research and Collaborative solution (Soft skills session)" on 29th of July, 2017.

Mr. Hitesh Solanki, Administrator, Dark-horse Academy, Anand, gave a talk on, “Role of

Mr. Tushar Patel, Company Officer, spread awareness on, "Child Line 1098 Awareness" on 27th of December, 2017.

Dr. Jayesh Pandya, Director, Nucleur formulation Pvt. Ltd, apprised on, "Risk and Challenges for the Entrepreneur" on 31st December, 2017

Dr. R. K. Maheshwari, Professor, Indore Pharmacy College, delivered lecture on, "Ecofriendly Pharmaceutical application of hydrophobic solubilize mixed hydrotropic solublization" on 9th January, 2018.

Mr. Mihir Parikh, Researcher, University of Manitoba, Canada, gave a lecture on," How to write scientific review article?" on 9th January, 2018.

Mr. Amit Trivedi, Entrepreneur, S. G. Biopharm., Mumbai, gave a brief talk on "Entrepreneur skills" on 28th January, 2018.

Mr. Shakti Gadhvi, Assistant Commissioner, FDA, delivered talk on," How to step into being an entrepreneur?" on 28th January 2018.

Mr. Sagar Pate l , Researcher, Tor rent Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Ahmedabad delivered talk on ,"Industry carrier and Canada PR process" on 15th February 2018.

SOCIAL AND EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

Self-defense training program

nd As a part of Self Defense Training Program and under Surksha Shetu Yogna Karate Classes organized between 2th January, 2018 to 8 January, 2018 in the direction of Women empowerment and to curb the menace of sexual

harassment was organized. Total 50 Girls Students and faculty members actively participated in Karate Training.

NSS Unit had organized various activities like social and awareness activities in a special camp at Vaghasi th Village, Taluka Anand from 29th June, 2017 to 5 July, 2017.

th Indian Pharmaceutical Association- Anand Branch of Gujarat State celebrated National Pharmacy Week from 29 Jan rd to 3 Feb 2018 on the theme of “Know your medicine: Ask your Pharmacist”. Students actively participated and the

National Pharmacy Week was coordinated by Ms. Veena Patel and Ms. Mansi Dholakia, Assistant Professor, Anand Pharmacy College.

Yoga Day Celebration and documentary club activityAs a part of Yoga Day Celebration, Documentary club along with Women cell organized the documentary session on 21st July, emphasizing the benefits of yoga. Documentary was based on the theme of "The Science Behind Yoga". Documentary on "The Ugly Face of Beauty- Is Child Labour the Foundation for your Makeup" was shown to students on 16th February, 2018 which showcased how mica is used in make up for shimmer procured illegally and child labour is associated with health and safety risks.Documentary "Edison v/s Tesla" was shown on 17th Feb. 2018. The documentary gave an inspiration never to give up and face the challenges that might come across.

Club Activities

Diabetes awareness Campaign rdDiabetes awareness campaign at Vaghasi village of Anand District on 3 July 2017 was held with the aim to increase

awareness about diabetes and its consequences among the villagers and to sensitize them to take appropriate action for the care and prevention of diabetes. Further, in order to raise the awareness regarding regular health check -ups, so as to improve the quality of life and enjoy good health throughout life; under the guidance of Dr. Tejal R. Gandhi, IPA Anand Local Branch in association with Zydus Hospital, Anand had organized a "Free Health Check-up Camp" in Vaghasi village on 4th July 2017, for villagers. The team of six members of hospital including one physician Dr. Sunil Vyas, one assistant, two nurses and two compounders arrived at Chandubhai Kalidas Patel Vidhyala of Vaghasi village. Free physical examination along with blood sugar and blood pressure were checked. Total 55 beneficiaries had participated and got valuable guidance from physician.

Mr. Devang Tandel : Assistant Professor, Anand Pharmacy College, delivered Hands on training HPLC during Workshop on HPLC and HPTLC held during 12th - 19th July, 2017.

Dr. Mukesh Gohel : Professor & PG Director, Anand Pharmacy College, has delivered talk on Research training workshop in Ignite 2017 organized by KBIPER, Gandhinagar held on 1st -4th August, 2017.

Dr. Tejal Gandhi : Professor & Principal, Anand Pharmacy College, delivered talk on the role of Nrf2-mediated pathway in cardiovascular diseases during international conference at Winnipeg held on 6th September, 2017.

Dr. Mukesh Gohel : Professor & PG Director, Anand Pharmacy College, delivered talk on Application of multivariate tools in drug product development during GUJCOST sponsored national seminar on Lean Six sigma Principles and multivariate tools in drug product development organized by Parul University on 08th -09th September, 2017.
