Inaugural Ceremony– Yet another season of celebration!

Maha Kavya Natakadi Priyam… Yet another edition of a spectacu-lar inaugural function began with members of Kalanjali dance forum performing a Bharatanatyam- ―Mahaganapathim‖, invoking the almighty‘s blessings, who is the creator and himself a fervent lover of this entire world that is nothing but an eternal poetry stitched with music and danced to by every speck in existence! Comperers of the ceremony Ms. Nisarga Nagaraj and Ms. Anusha Navada, welcomed the gathering to the union of three major ele-ments—colour, beauty, joy– with the celebration of Holi, Interna-tional Women‘s Day and our Anandotsava‘12. Chairman of the Jury Committee, Dr Niranjan N Chiplunkar welcomed the gathering to this state level cultural meet, which according to him had set many standards and benchmarks. Chairman of the Core committee, Dr Yuvaraju B N declared that Anandotsava‘12 could be called as ―mini VTU youth festival‖, with the blend of two words—Anand and Utsav. He urged the participants to ―relax, forget all worries and enjoy‖ Mr. Shailesh Shetty introduced Mr. Ananthakrishna, Non-Executive Chairman, Karnataka Bank to all gathered, as a ―gentleman who epitomizes our motto to strive for excellence‖. Sri. Ananthakrishna inaugurated Anandotsava‘12 by lighting the lamp before which the students raised letters of Anandot-sava‘12 containing lamps in them and thereby lit up the festival, literally shining bright. Chief guest of the ceremony Mr. Ananthakrishna addressed the gathering and expressed his pleasure to be a part of celebration of an organization, which is run by a ―family of discipline‖. Mr. Ananthakrishna cited the example of Mr. Akhilesh Yadav and wished that ―some or many‖ of us gain such leadership and organizing skills like him! ―Life is made up of four stages– childhood, student, career, senior citizen‖, Mr. Ananthakrishna enumer-ated various roles and responsibilities we play in different stages of our life; like in childhood our inno-cent mischiefs are adored by others, as students we learn to become more responsible and gain ideas

as well as ideals. But somehow, these ide-als go astray in our career life and we go only for making money, then again in our life as senior citizens, we regret ―we should have done this and that. We did

not. Therefore we are like this‖ .Hence we must always ensure that whatever is acquired in our student life stays intact in all our endeavors , he said. As he ended the address he wished that Anandotsava to all of us turns out to be ―Sadchidanandotsava‖ with Sath– good, Chith– mind!

Principal Dr S Y Kulkarni, addressed the gathering by sharing his experience ,mentioned that ―Initially Anandotsava was getting less participants‖ and compared it with this day where around 1000 students from 43 colleges across the state are a part of our joy! ―Today‘s engineer shouldn‘t be just study oriented. We want their overall development‖, these talents can be brought out and Anandotsava is a small effort in that direction, he said. In relation to Dr Yuvaraju‘s previous remark, Dr. Kulkarni wished that Anandotsava becomes a ―mega VTU youth fest‖. He took special note of the changes in the way inaugural ceremony was held. With lamps going up ―literally illuminating the fest‖, were his words. Chairman of the inaugural committee Prof. Shalini K Sharma, delivered the vote of thanks. She thanked the chief guest , Mr Ananthakrishna for his geniality, words of maturity and wisdom. She also reiterated Mr. Ananthakrishna‘s thought of a Sachidanandotsava. She thanked each and every person associated with Anandotsava‘12 and wished the fest a grand success. The chief guest was then felicitated, as Prof. Shalini K Sharma put it, ―with a memento of joyous , smiling Krishna, to Sri Ananthakrishna‖.

Principal’s note…

It gives me immense pleasure to witness the festive mood of "Anandotsava ". It is a platform to bring out and exhibit cultural and literary talents of the students. My special and heart felt appreciations to all our staff and students for all the arrangements being made to make "Anandotsava 2012" a memorable event. I also congratulate Team ―Anand Pathrika‖ for bringing out the details of all the

Anand pathrika spotlight– Team Thorana How do you add to the charm of the campus? Insert some people? Make them move around? We caught up with team Thorana, to know how they do these works of decoration! Anand pathrika : Everybody is going gaga over the decorations and by extension , team Thorana. Congratulations for

the good work.

Thorana: Thank you. We are not sure if everybody is indeed going gaga over us, our work is probably just one feature

of the many, but it is an honour to receive appreciation from all corners and let us say all heights!

Anand pathrika: How do you manage to keep the show fresh and new every time?

Thorana: We are a team that has no hierarchy of any sort, students’ ideas run first. We also enjoy the fullest freedom

to execute whatever we think is apt. In thorana, it would be a miracle if somebody’s idea is not heeded to.

Every thought ends up in the physical plane. Probably that explains the freshness!

Anand Pathrika: What is the idea behind forming a group such as yours? What is so special about it?

Thorana: We are a very informal group, with absolutely no registrations and board room meetings. Our modus oper-

andi is very dynamic and spontaneous. Everybody is good at some or the other thing. The dancers can dance, the sing-

ers will sing and so on… but what if someone is good at crafts or if someone specializes in sketching out intricate de-

tails.? Everybody needs a platform to showcase their talents and more importantly, everybody needs to be involved!

Anand Pathrika: So how does one join Thorana?

Thorana: Currently Thorana is ‘headquartered‘ at SAC, we will soon make it more organized and utilise students’ po-

tential to the maximum possible extent! One special trait of thorana is that we carry a truckload of people and material

with us! Just wave once and you will be picked!

Anand Pathrika: Team Anand Pathrika wishes team Thorana sweet success in spreading colors !

Staying seated without moving… not possible You came, you sang, you conquered! Antakshari hosts Mr. Roshan Fernandes and Mrs. Ashwini man-aged to keep the audience singing along with them and even managed to get the audience on their feet for some catchy songs. With a perfect mix of classics and recent numbers, the rounds were a huge hit among the audience. Although the participants seemed more clueless than ever before. Is that a bad thing? We don‘t judge! WINNERS: Oh! And what do we say? All the winners are from NMAMIT, Nitte!

A day before there was fire… We can go on sympathizing about the caveman‘s food before he figured out how to make fire. But his life couldn‘t have been more difficult than ours ! He did not have to worry about the way he presented his platter, the time limit to cook (without fire, that is) , he didn‘t have anybody to judge his food and more primarily, he didn‘t have an endless queue of other cave men waiting to taste his food! That is right, if you thought life without fire was difficult, we bring you a day before there was fire for the first time. While some classic music played in the backdrop, invited ―Food Critics‖ came to taste the food, shook their glasses, observed the colour, smelt the aroma of the wine and greeted each other, after which there were long chats over the delicacies served. Except, the food critics belonged to an age of cavemen, remember? Anand Pathrika wishes to award ―cooking without fire‖ the most talked about, the most eaten off and not to

mention the most successful event of Anandotsava‘12. Kudos to the organizers and participants and the fire for staying home and not spoiling the broth! WINNERS : 1– SIT,VALACHIL 2– NMAMIT 3—NITTE INSTITUTE OF SPEECH AND HEARING, MANGALORE

A little magic… is all we need in life! The evening ended with Kudroli Ganesh and team‘s Vismaya Jadoo– magic show. Kudroli Ganesh managed to keep the audience stunned by some classic tricks and his signature ―mayada kattari‖! Although, somehow people vanished after the magic show. Is there a way to reverse this magic trick? Anand Pathrika will find out!

Anandotsava has been celebrating and relishing talents of students. Anandotsava‘12 featured three major exhibitions– Kalotsava by Mr. Sandeep S of Mechanical, Create Photography competition cum exhibition by Mr. Akshay Shet of CS and ‗Paints & pixels‖ - a photo and art exhibition by the many artists of IS (organized by VISTA). These exhibits added to the colourful mood of Holi. The exhibits were highly appreciated by all.

Walk like you rule… With a mix of grace and glamour, fashion show, as ever, turned out to be a popular event. Girls and boys, walking down the ramp, with their best attires, like they rule! WINNERS: 1-NRAMP, NITTE 2-NMAMIT, NITTE 3- SRIBHAGAWAN MAHAVEER JAIN COLLEGE OF ENGG.

And talk for or against a rule… Life would be so plain and more primarily meaningless, if all of us accepted everything told to us without even giving it a thought. Debate– an event where sharpest of minds get down to fiercest of wars using swords of words! WINNERS: 1-SAHYADHRI COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING, MANGALORE 2 –

Game of Shadows! The cultural evening at Anandotsava is known for its gran-deur. Yet again, the crowd was held together by perform-ances . Shadow dance by Kalanjali forum, western music per-formances, body show by Mr. Shyam Sunder were some of the highlights of the show. The Physical Education Director, Mr. Shyam Sunder was felicitated for his achievements and his dedication towards mentoring many young talents, who are coming to the lime-light in the national level sports. The audience honored him with a standing ovation. The consistent crowd thoroughly enjoyed the cultural evening till the very last bit of it. Looks like we broke the previous evening‘s spell.
