ANALYZING AND FINDING HARD-TO-FIND LEAKS Monday, Jan. 23, 9:00 - 11:00 am Inspecting Essentials Track The inspector finds water damage or stains on a wall or ceiling. What happens next? Do you condemn the roof? When buyers or past clients see stains, they think roof leaks. The purpose of this class is to take an in-depth look at what’s causing these stains when the roof looks good. We look at moisture in the home “holistically” and consider all factors that can cause stains on walls and ceilings. Some of the sources will surprise even the seasoned inspector. This course is helpful for analyzing conditions during an inspection, but it can also be worth its weight in gold when a customer calls and says, “My roof is leaking, and you said it was fine six months ago.” You can take that service call, neutralize it before it becomes a legal issue – and turn that customer into one of your biggest fans. Gerry Aubrey, ACI, is a recognized expert on roofing and has maintained a roof consulting practice since 1994. He began his public speaking career representing CertainTeed Corporation to roofing contractors nationally. Gerry has addressed InspectionWorld and the National Association of Home Inspectors national convention many times as well as contracting groups such as Contractor’s Network and the Journal of Light Construction’s live show in Providence, RI. He has spoken at AmeriSpec seminars, the Kentucky Licensing Board and countless chapter seminars throughout the county. He started his roofing career in 1974 as president of Miller Roofing Company in Philadelphia’s prestigious Main Line area. Gerry is a member of the Roof Consulting Institute and holds a Florida Home Inspector’s license.
