I. INTRODUCTION
A. Purpose of the paper
The purpose of the paper is to seek to find out the reading abilities of a
Grade 2 learner at Brgy. Andagao, Kalibo, Aklan.
In this paper, I will test the learner's ability in reading comprehension, how
to recognize the words correctly and how to pronounce the word with the correct
pronounciation.
B. Respondent
A cute and jolly girl named Apple Mikaela I. Cuatriz. She is 6 years old. A
grade 2 learner of Andagaw, Elementary School. She is the daughter of Mr.
Emmikael L. Cuatriz and Mrs. Diolyn I. Cuatriz. Her hobbies are singing, dancing,
writing and declaiming.
II. METHODS USED
A. S.D.Q.A (San Diego Quick Assessment)
This is a word recognition test that provides 10 words at each grade level,
beginning with pre- primer level and continuing through grade eleven. The
instructions suggest giving the student the 10 words for one level typed on an
index card. For primary grades it will be well to use a primary type typewriter. By
starting two grades of the students grade levels, most students will be able to
begin successfully. The test is easy to administer and requires very little time.

B. S.O.R.T (Slosson Oral Reading Test)
This Oral Reading Test is based on the ability to pronounce words at
different levels of difficulty. The words have been taken from standardized school
readers and the reading level obtained from testing represents median or
standardized school achievement. A reliability coefficient of .99 ( test - retest
interval of one week ) shows that this Oral Reading Test can be used at frequent
intervals to measure a child's progress in reading, providing no specific coaching
with these particular words given. Such periodic testing can be highly motivating.
C. W.R.AT (Wide Range Achievement Test)
This is an achievement test which measures an individual's ability to read
words, comprehend sentences, spell and compute solutions to Math problems.
The test currently is in its fourth revision. The latest offering in a test series was
first published in 1946 and available from Psychological Assessment
Resources. The various edition of the WRAT have enjoyed widespread used in a
variety of settings as a measure of the basic academic skills necessary for
effective learning, communicating and thinking: reading and spelling, words and
performing basic mathematical calculations. The test has two levels; Level I is
normed for children aged 5-0 to 11-11; level II, is normed for children aged 12
through adults aged 64.

III. PROBLEM OBSERVED
A. As I observed the learner in SDQA, I found out that she recognized all the
selected words. I can classified her as an independent reader.
B. In SORT, my respondent missed to pronounce the words like here, came, was,
basket and station. Then, I noticed that while reading, she had some defects in
reading like addition, repetition and vision.
C. In WRAT, she perfectly read the first story entitled Grasshop per". As I checked
her comprehension, she got 4 correct answers and 1 mistake. In the second story
which is the The John F. Kennedy Space Center" she got 2 correct answers and
3 mistakes.
IV. ANALYSES
A. SDQA
I guess the reasons behind the learner perfectly recognized the words is
that of the influence of people around her. Maybe, her teacher was effective.
Second reason was her parents. She told me that her mother was an elementary
teacher and a grade 1 adviser. It is possible that her mother was very supportive
in her studies and guides her in reading.
B. SORT
Maybe, due to excitement the learner mispronounced some words.
