Analysis of ‘How often do you watch Documentaries?’
It seems as though the younger generation watch documentaries occasionally. This could make them a good target audience as, if we include enough features they look for in a documentary, it will appeal to them and persuade them to watch it. The are also a good target audience as the older generation seems to answer ‘rarely’, suggesting they watch documentaries less frequently than the younger generation.

Analysis of ‘What features do you look for in a documentary?’
To appeal to our target audience we need to make out documentary entertaining, while being educational. Informality is also a required element for our target audience age group.

Entertainment is also a required element for females as is informality. However, current affairs is just as popular as education and so we will try and bring this feature into our documentary.

‘Do you like to see the interviewer on screen?’
It is evident that all ages, except the 16-18 group, prefer the interviewer off screen. To appeal to a wider audience we will not include an interviewer on screen; this is also common in channel 4 documentaries.

‘What type of music do you prefer to be included in documentaries?’
We were expecting quirky music to be the most popular type to be used in documentaries as this is common in channel 4 documentaries, which are popular with our target age group as shown in the question ‘Did you like the documentary ‘Educating Essex?’. However, dramatic is clearly the most popular which we will take into consideration. Humour is also the second most popular type with our target age group and so to meet both these requirements we could over dramatise some elements through sound which will create humour.

The 25-30 age group would like the documentary to be put online as does the 21-25 group. However, our target age group does not find this necessary and so we would not make it available on channel 4’s catch-up service ‘4Od’.

‘Should hidden camera footage be included?’
Our target audience age group 12-16 and 16-18 years would prefer hidden camera footage to be included. We were planning on including this originally as we feel it would be more beneficial to fit to the documentary genre but we can see it is a necessary inclusion.

Analysis of
‘Did you like the channel 4 documentary ‘Educating Essex’?
We are basing our documentary idea on Channel 4’s documentary ‘Educating Essex’ but we felt we should find out whether it appealed to our target age group. While it was favourited by the younger half of our target age group, it was not by the older. To take this into consideration we will include some similar features of the documentary such as the hidden camera footage, but make it ore factual and educational.
