Now, having put their chart woes behind them, the Xenomania duo are back with 'One Touch' - and Brian Higgins and co. are well and truly pulling out all the stops. After a quivering, '80s-ish intro, Britt and Frankee get straight down to the dirty, teasing: "Do you want a candy? Hey baby! / With a different taste?" without so much as a flinch or giggle from either of them. Thankfully, the cheeky lyrics are backed by a typically infectious Xenomania production boasting struttable synths, loads of "whooosh!" effects and a chorus as moreish as a bag of Haribo Tangfastics. We may have waited five months for it, but the result is a fool-proof pop stomper that should return the pair to their rightful place at the top of the charts. 1. Use of comparisons 2. Speaking to the reader and mode of address The use of ‘we may’ indicates that the reviewer is as much a listener of Mini Viva as the person who is reading the article. It creates a personal tone in the writing. 3. Emotive language ‘Now having their chart woes behind them’ creates emotion towards the band so people feel sorry for them and placing pity on them through the article makes people want to listen to them for moral support. 4. Imagery The first paragraph creates the imagery of the band failing in their first attempts, but then it creates a sense of hope so it creates an imagery of war with the charts for Mini Viva to win for a good place in the charts. 5. Use of quips, lyrics, in-jokes and phrases ‘infectious Xenomania production’ is an in-joke with the audience, so it creates a group of people who follow the bands record company. It creates a sort of cult within this Xenomania excitement. 6. Tone of voice With the use of double-barrelled words and an informal tone the tone of voice makes it sound as if the reviewer is a teenager so it engages with the reader quite well and makes it feel like the reader and the writer have a lot in common. 7. Following themes relating to the bands image ‘without so much as a flinch or a giggle from either of them’. The use of ‘giggle’ creates a femininity about their image, however with the use of ‘without so much’ insinuates that as much as the band can be girly, they are also very-hardworking and brave to continue fighting for a good spot in the charts.

MINI VIVA – One Touch (Single Review)

After their brilliant debut, 'Left My Heart In Tokyo', charted inside the top ten last year,

things veered dangerously off course when Mini Viva's follow-up, the wishful 'I Wish',got lost in the pre-Christmas onslaught and failed to crack the top 40. Now, having

"whooosh!" effects and a chorus as moreish as a bag of Haribo Tangfastics. We may

have waited five months for it, but the result is a fool-proof pop stomper that should

return the pair to their rightful place at the top of the charts.
