What is the music genre?

The music genre is electronic dance and you can tell as it says on the skyline biggest dance musicIt also has articles on how to become a DJ which would attract an EDM audience.In addition, there is a very well known DJ group on the front cover called Swedish House Mafia which would tell readers straight away that the genre is EDM. The bright colours also represent electronic dance music as well as the locations mentioned such as Ibiza.

Who is the target audience?

The target audience for this magazine is late teenagers and early twenties and you can tell this as the articles are things to do with clubs which would appeal to older people. In addition, there is a reference to Ibiza 2010 which is a club concert that happened and people who attended that were around the age of 20-24

How is the audience attracted to the magazine?

The audience would be attracted by this as the name is very well known and is quite big with the members of Swedish house mafia on the front cover. Fans of them would see it and would want to read the magazine. Also, there is a free CD with the issue which would entice more people into buying the copy.

The main image is of Swedish House Mafia and the image relates to the genre as they are a well known DJ group with many famous releases such as dont you worry child. The image is put in the centre with writing on top of it and some writing on the side of them. The main focus is then put on their face and you can see that theyre happy which makes us think that the article about them is light hearted which makes us want to read it more.

This man is wearing a casual outfit which gives the effect that their music is fun and easy to listen to.However, this man is wearing a more professional type of outfit which gives the impression that their music is fun but also contains a lot of meaning.Both of them combined would make people who are into light hearted and meaningful music want to read their article and perhaps listen to their music.

Props

This man is holding a wine glass which implies that theyre having fun with their music and adds a mature accent to the magazine. It also relates to the target audience as listeners would be partying and drinking alcohol.

Setting

You can see in the background that there is a big house and it looks sort of like a party house. This gives the effect that their music is very upbeat and that the articles will be related to parties. It also relates to the magazine company as Mixmag is a dance music magazine.

colours

The colour scheme used here is pink, white and black. Pink is a common colour used in EDM concerts and videos as its a light and fun colour to use. Also, white is a fairly bright colour which relates to EDM as in concerts the lights are very bright and so is the makeup that people wear to the concerts. The colours enlighten the mood of the image as they make the magazine brighter and more fun.

Title of the magazine

The title is called Mixmag and this reflects the content of the magazine as the word Mix is a shortened version of mixtape which is an accumulation of different songs from different artists. The magazine itself gives information of different artists and songs, almost like a mixtape. This reflects the target audience as they would be listening to various artists and different songs as most DJs do songs together.

typefacesWithin the title of the magazine, the I has two dots inside it which looks similar to a turn table. It enforces the idea of dance music and makes it look different than a regular I. This reflects the target audience as they look different than regular people due to their bright makeup and music tastes.

The fact that everyone reads it would give the impression that it contains a lot of useful information about upcoming gigs and events and other new artists. This in turn would want to make someone in the shops want to buy the magazine.

There is also use of listing as well when it tells you about other artists. This tells the reader that there are lots of artists included in the magazine and this would want to make someone buy the magazine. This is because if theyre fans of that particular artist then they would want to find out whats new about them and their music. However, if someone is unfamiliar about the artist then they would want to buy the magazine to find out more.
