Digipak analysis

For my third artist analysis of digipaks I have

chosen Roll Deeps return of the big money

sound.

Analysis

The genre of this could convey dance as well as

grime, because of the use of the bright pink and

blue colours, and the look of space the front

cover has. Although, it shows grime conventions

through the use of the large main image of a

council estate. This is a different approach of a

main image seen as most of Wiley influenced

digipaks involve an artist turning away from the

camera, or at least an artist! Even though of the

bright colours, the digipak is overall dark due to

the black background and grey image.

Analysis

I believe roll deep want to convey that they don’t

forget where they come from, therefore,

representing their heritage. ‘Roll deep’ is a lot

bigger than the name of the album on the front,

therefore sending a message that the artists are

more important. I believe the audience for this

digipak would be the normal, young grime

demographic. They could be appealed by the use

of the block of flats used on the front and the

sense of familiarity. Once again, the main image

is larger than the text, although the text of the

artists is not far off.
