Analysis of magazine Contents pagesContents 1.NME Sept 2009

Dizzee Rascal EditionThe date is put at the top of the page beneath the masthead so reader knows what issue this is.

Subheadings are splitting information into little chunks for the reader making it easily accessible to the page they are interested in.

Brief headings are shown here to help readers find particular pages they are looking for easier.

The page number in red making them obvious and clear on the white background.

Although the masthead here isn’t as big at the masthead on the cover it is exactly the same colour and font. This is so the audience can easily recognise the magazine almost like a logo for NME.

The main image shows a rock chick posing outside a tour bus, this connotates the style of music magazine this is. Also this girl being outside the tour bus makes it clear this is a music magazine and the bus may be relevant to upcoming gigs, or an article inside.

Bands are listed in red with page number in black, this contrast in colours makes it easy for the audience to see what page number for each article and also the colours fit with the colour scheme, all over the cover and contents the main colours used are black and red. These colours fit with genre of rock/indie music and therefore suits the magazine.

The image and related article is placed in the centre of the contents page and taking up the most room making it the most clear The image has been edited, given a frame and the writing beneath all to look very worn and rough to fit with the genre of the magazine and related article.

The editor's introduction gives the audience a taster of what is going to be in the issue and also upcoming issues.

ANALYSIS OF CONTENTS PAGE 2

Vibe Magazine

The main image has taken more of the space and the content of the text is a lot but it is very small font therefore it shows how sophisticated the magazine is and how organised it is. You could tell the magazine had been carefully placed and chosen the font of text to make the magazine have a kind of elegance. Eminem is dressed in a suit which is very formal and smart wear and this relates to the magazine as it is a very sophisticated magazine.

The layout of the contents page is that all the text is on the mid –half-way on the right hand side and you could tell that the rule of thirds has been used. This is because the texts are lined neatly on the right hand side and the main image has taken two-thirds of the page.

The background appears very dull and the artist is almost fading into it, but you notice that the background appears to look like curtains as though Eminem is in some kind of show. This artist has been used as he will be relevant to the genre of music the audience of vibe listen to.

The text is interesting and is quite quirky. It breaks the conventions of normal music magazine’s style in doing this the contents page stands out. This page does not look like a contents page however Still included is the page numbers and whets where. The type of language effects the way the reader receives the message therefore the reader in this case will be more interested in it as it is weird and different to other content’s pages.

In the top left hand corner is what appears to be a logo for Vibe magazine. It uses the ‘V’ for vibe then continues to look like a barcode with underneath written www.vibe.com”. This is an effective way of readers seeing this logo and knowing what magazine it is and the connotations of genre of music included. Etc.

ANALYSIS OF CONTENTS PAGE 3 (Title/date of magazine analysed

The title used on the contents page is a bright colour in comparison to its background and the rest of the text but also fits with a colour scheme used. Where text that is considered to be important is put in this yellow. The reader can therefore find it easy to read and know what's where.

Images are used, which appear to be from within the magazine showing the reader pictures of what's inside.

A letter from the editor is included with a photo of the editor and also signed at the bottom. In this letter generally includes what is in this issue and explains reasons for what's going on etc. this s a good way of showing the thoughts of the editor himself.

The name of the magazine is stated her, in a different font and colour to other parts of the magazine. This is so this font, size and colour can be represented with Kerrang .

The colour yellow is constantly used on this page for important headings and titles. This makes it easy for the reader to work out what they want to look at., also to find the page they are interested in.

The background is just a large image covering half the page, the image includes what appears to be lots of people at a concert/gig and someone crowd surfing. The reader can clearly see that the people in this photo are having a great time and expects this magazine to provide that. This image it fits in with the target audience, people who listen to heavy metal and rock music.
