“If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.” -Anne Bradstreet (the first poet and first female writer in the British North American colonies to be published)

So, it is with great pleasure that I say to you, "HAPPY SPRING!" I was beginning to wonder if I would ever be able to speak those words. As all of you know, it has been a trying Winter here in Pennsylvania and throughout the Northeast. We saw the coldest weather in twenty (20) years and, depending on how you look at it, some of the most snowfall in a long time. Needless to say, it has been an especially challenging season for those of us in the transportation industry. For that, and on behalf of our entire management team, I want to thank each and every one of our dedicated employees for their commitment to safe school transportation throughout the difficult winter. We have technicians and shop personnel that spent many early mornings and long days addressing snow-covered lots and "cold-starting" buses. Along with them, our drivers have had many frigid mornings carefully navigating the snow and ice in parking lots and roadways to deliver our precious cargo. Yet, here we are, awaiting the arrival of warmer weather, while moving ahead right into another very busy Spring sports season and coming down the home stretch on the 2013-14 school year. So, although Spring is anxiously anticipated, I want to stress how important it is to remain focused and committed to working SAFELY. As wonderful a time of year it is, it is also the WORST time of year for accidents and incidents. After all, as history has unfortunately taught us, we actually experience more accidents and incidents AFTER the inclement weather has passed and the days get more pleasant. With that being said, I challenge each and every employee to approach this Spring school season with the same amount of care and attention that we took on those snowy and icy mornings just a few short weeks ago. As nice as the weather is sure to become, all it takes is one unfortunate accident to ruin even the most beautiful of days. However, I   certainly know that, with everyone's effort, we can avoid these incidents and make these last few months of school the safest and most enjoyable ever!

*Special thanks to Herb Snook, Jason Ellerman, & Missy Range for serving on the Safety Slogan Committee this quarter

The safety department has been soliciting slogans for the safety slogan program. Each quarter, a slogan will be drawn and used as one of the published slogans. The individual submitting the slogan will be given a token of appreciation for his effort. The remaining individuals will also have a chance to win a small prize if their name is drawn from the remaining contributors. The safety committee is making a strong effort to involve more people in this important program. The winner of the slogan submission for April, May and June was Laura Clark and the other winner was Daphne Clouser. Many thanks are sent to all the contributors and each one is asked to submit again. Slogans are not maintained for future consideration.

SAFETY SLOGAN PROGRAM

In order to be proactive, Rohrer Bus Service will be implementing a new miss program so that safety issues can be resolved before they become an actual incident.  All employees are encouraged to look for safety issues and report them on a near miss form.  In order to identify safety concerns, the help of all employees is required.  A good safety program occurs when employees look out for each other and help to prevent an injury to the other workers. Those individuals submitting near miss forms will have their names placed in a container for a monthly drawing and the name drawn will receive a prize from the company.  This program will work only if employees participate.  Let’s become a safer company and reduce our workplace accidents!

NEAR MISSES

- The $52.00 Annual Local Service Tax (LST) EXEMPTION FORMS for 2014 will no longer be accepted for current employees.   If you have claimed exemption and earn more than $12,000 in 2014, it is your responsibility to contact the payroll office to have the tax withheld.  We do not track wages in conjunction with an exemption request.
