Pooja Preparation Instructions

1. Prepare Pooja Altar (Mandapam)

❖ Arrange altar (mandapam) with one framed picture of Lord Sri Satyanarayana Swamy (if not any God’s picture)

❖ If you don’t have mandapam any clean table is good to use

❖ Pour oil/ghee in the two lamps (deepam) along with wicks (vattulu) and place them in small plates. Put prepared lamps on either side of the lord

❖ Kalasam arrangement (based on preference)• place white towel on mandapam where you are doing pooja if

there is enough spaceOr • Place white towel in front of pooja mandapam

❖ Put raw rice on the towel place kalasam half filled with water

❖ Arrange mango leaves on it and place coconut on top of it

❖ Now make Ganapathi (with turmeric) on one betel leaf and place it on raw rice (spread on a plate or new white towel)

❖ Keep Sri Satyanarayana Swamy idol or any God’s idol in a small bowl for abhishekam (if idol is not available coin can be used)

Navagraha Mandapa Arrangement:

❖ Follow picture for reference. • Each graha has an associated type of grain that

are collectively called Navadhanya• Follow the chart and directions to place the

grahas with their associated grain in a small bowl with a coin and dry date on a betel leaf

❖ Specific color vastram (blouse pieces) for the grahacan be arranged as seen in picture (optional)

NOTE: Devotees are requested to note that the direction of the nava dhanyam is based on the true direction of location but NOT based on the position of pooja mandapam or devotee

4. Prepare Pooja Items

❖ Place pasupu, kumkum, gandham and akshata in small bowls

❖ Keep following items ready in a large plate or tray• Bell• Camphor• Harathi stand/ plate• Agarbathi• Beetel leaves (loose)• Beetel nuts (loose)• Dry dates• Coins (loose)

❖ Keep kitchen paper roll ready ❖ Keep three bottles of water/ jug of water ready for pooja

5. Prepare Pooja Items (continued…)❖ Place two spoons in two glasses of water in a plate

along with one bowl (this is for achamanam during pooja)

❖ Prepare and mix one bowl of Panchamrutam using following items• 1 cup Milk• 1 cup Honey• 1 cup clarified butter (ghee)• 1 cup sugar• 1 cup yogurt (curd)

❖ Use panchamrutam for abhishekam

6. Prepare Fruits, Flowers and Coconuts

❖ Place the fruits that you got from store in a big plate after removing labels and cleaning them.

❖ Place coconuts in a plate.

❖ Cut the flowers from flower bunches and keep them in a plate or tray.

❖ If garland is prepared for picture frame, keep the garland ready in the plate/tray.

7. Prepare for Naivedhyam

❖ Place all dry fruits in a plate.

❖ Prepare one sweet for naivedhyam (make more as per your convenience)

❖ Keep Naivedhyam covered
