Arkezia owes its unique flavour and extraordinary bouquet to botritis cinerea, a very rare noble rot which attacks the Verdicchio grapes its forms on. GRAPES: Verdicchio 100%. The San Sisto vineyard is 350 metres above sea level on a total of 30 hectares of north-east facing vineyards, with clean clayey soils. Every year the best grapes alone are selected to make this single vineyard wine. In colder areas and clayey soils, in fact, Verdicchio is a great grape variety producing full bodied, mineral wines which age well in wood and at length. PRODUCTION TECHNIQUES: Verdicchio left on the vine in certain favourable years and climatic conditions develops noble rot - botritis cinerea - which transforms and improves the grape’s aromas and flavours. During harvesting by hand, beginning in November in as many as ten distinct stages, grapes are selected which have been attacked by the rot on more than 50% of their surface area. After 35-40 days fermenting in controlled temperatures, the wine is aged in small 225 litre French oak barrels for 14-16 months, followed by at least 6 months ageing in the bottle. TASTING CHARACTERISTICS: Golden yellow with elegant nuances. Packed with open, long lasting aromas encompassing notes of ripe fruit, apricot jam, acacia honey, broom, sage and hay. Elegant but full bodied, it caresses your palate giving full bodied and delicate sensations as a result of the presence of refined residual sugars, which exalt its complexity. It is ideal with foie gras or mature cheeses, such as the traditional local ditch aged cheese. Serve at temperatures of approx. 12 -14 °C. An intriguing... and sunny wine. SHEET FAZI BATTAGLIA Soc.
