We are in great need of Substitutes for Lorain City Schools and Clearview Local Schools. Interested parties may contact Pam at (440) 324-5777, ext. 1113 or go directly to www.northcoastssa.org and fill out an application. Superintendent’s Message Buckeye Pride A friend recently sent me the link to the Ohio State Marching Band’s halftime show from October 19 vs. Iowa (Google it!). Being a former band director and member of the BG Falcon Marching Band, I truly appreciated the efforts of the Buckeye Band as they paid tribute to Michael Jackson. One of the band’s drills included an MJ-like figure doing the Moonwalk! How cool is that? What does it take to get 200 band members moving together as one while playing a complex musical arrangement? - Thoughtful design (musical arrangement and charting of movement) - Patient teachers to instruct the students where, when and how fast to move on the field while playing the right notes. - Peer leaders to work with the band members in small groups (squads), holding them accountable for their performance. - High expectations the public (and the band members) always expect the best from their performance. Perfection is the standard! - Practice, practice, practice! The OSU Band serves as a great example for us all as we seek to serve our students and districts at the highest level possible. As we enter this season of Thanksgiving, I want to thank you for the preparation, patience, leadership and sense of pride and expectation you bring to your job everyday just like the Buckeyes! I am very proud of all we are accom- plishing! Take time to count your many blessings not only on Thanksgiving, but each and every day! Greg

Stroll Down Sensory Lane

While a heart-pumping power walk can do wonders, this month your mission is to rediscover the lost art of the stroll. What can you smell when you slow down? The fresh smell of dried leaves? A neighbor's fireplace? By giving yourself permis-sion to walk slowly, you're inviting the overall pace of your life to decel-erate so that you may savor moments — not race through

them.

Lorain County Academy Profile from Graham Henderson

Justin is in our high school class and his home district is North Ridgeville. He is in our Career Based Interven-tion Program and has been helping our school with minor technical problems that occur from time to time. A great student and a caring individual, I'm sure he will be a success story in his adult life.

My Bucket Trip—by Jill Orseno My husband and I just returned from a trip I have been waiting for years to take. It was a New Eng-land trip to see the fall foliage, and being married to a teacher, I had to wait for him to retire! We started our week off in Bar Harbor, Maine which was absolutely beautiful! We took a light house boat tour where we were told some fascinating stories of some of the homes on the shore. For instance, one of the largest homes on the island was built to persuade one young man’s fiancé to move from Europe to America to be-come his bride. She agreed to the move, but never lived in the mansion. She was a passenger on the Ti-tanic and did not survive the trip. From Bar Harbor we traveled south and stopped at Kennebunkport, ME. We saw the Bush Family Compound where you can’t receive cell service due to the secret service scram-blers. I also ate breakfast 10 feet from Stephen King! I was afraid he might be rude to me if I approached him, but I did stalk him a little bit. From there we traveled into Massachusetts where we discovered the craziest drivers. They cut eve-ryone off, never used a blinker, sped like crazy and nobody seemed to mind! Our stress levels started rising and we decided to get back to the small harbors along the shore. So we spent our last three nights in New-port, RI where we would awake to discover one or two cruise ships sitting next to the hotel shuttling hun-dreds of people ashore. Jamestown, RI was probably my favorite town after Bar Harbor. It was very quaint, yet people were very down to earth and eager to have a conversation. We hiked through their Beavertail Park and saw such picturesque scenery. This was a fantastic trip that I highly recommend. I returned to work relaxed and ready to tackle the holidays.
