TRANSLATED VERSION OF THE CHAPTER 18 AND 19 OF THE HOLY
QUR’AN
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to recognize the classification and idiom
translation strategies found in the Indonesian translated version of chapter eighteen
and nineteen versions of the Qur'an. The word ‘idiom’ commonly comes from
Greek which means “distinctive, independent, special or personal”. Idiom is a
frozen form that differs literally from its single word. The idiom always appear from
literary works because they are used to embellish the writing. Some linguistic
studies have used the Holy Qur'an as an object of analysis by many researchers, so
it is generally interesting to be analyzed the translated versions of Holy Qur'an as it
contains figurative languages fall into the idiom category and other unique features
of the language.
The object of this research was the Indonesian translated versions of the
chapter eighteen and nineteen of Holy Qur'an by Qur’anic Digital Version3 that
was primarily involved by Sugema (2004). The completion of this research through
data collection using qualitative research and analysis documents applied as the
research instrument. The data found in the Indonesian translated version of the
chapters eighteen and nineteen of Holy Qur’an were clarified based on related
theories.
In the result of this study, there are 25 idioms which the researcher found in
the direct sentences of the Indonesian translated versions of chapter eighteen and
nineteen of the Holy Quran. The dominant classification of idioms found in the
Indonesian translated versions of chapters eighteen and nineteen of the Holy Quran
are Grammatical idiom and idiom without pragmatic point, each totally are found
25 data. For the encoding there are 18 data, 7 data for decoding, 19 data for
substantive, and 6 data for formal. Moreover, the dominant of the translation
strategies is similar meaning but dissimilar form, there are totally 10 data. For
similar meaning and form there are 6 data, and 9 data for paraphrasing.
