.,...,.~:kHE drawings shown at this exhibition, with few exceptions, were made for
'" ' ,_.,.._,A newspaper reproduction. In selecting the drawings from the large number
made during the past twelve months, the purpose has been to cover the usual range of present-clay newspaper illustration. The exhibition, therefore, includes portrait work (both from life and from photographs), news sketches and cartoons. The influence of the presickntial campaign is evident in the number of drawings made at the National Conventions of the political parties, or deal-ing with notable events of the succeeding campaign. Many of these drawings, in ad-dition to their merit as mere drawings, have the interest that attaches to work done at the scene of the illustration. The newspaper sketches were originally printed in the Chi-cago Record, the Chicago Chronicle and the Chicago Evening Post.
The exhibition also includes a considerable number of miscellaneous drawings, not ex-pressly of a newspaper character, but ·rather more suitable for such printing as can be afforded by magazine or book publications. It may be added, however, that all the black-and-white work is of a character that will enable it to be practicably reproduced by the zinc-etching process.
