World Religions An Essay by Ginny Ruadh
Religions around the world have shaped history and controlled or been controlled
by Monarchs and Rulers.
Here are some of the main religions of today:
Hindu Buddhist Christianity
Muslim Judaism Wicca/Pagan
Some of the oldest religions were Egyptian, Greek Roman and Nordic. There were
common factors i.e. there was a god or goddess of the sun, sea, underworld /
death, farming and a god of the sky. Often the gods were having a war with each
other resulting in a very chaotic life for the humans on earth.
These old religions are mostly legend owing the Crusades. Everybody who did not
convert to their religion was killed and their books and relics were destroyed.
Some religions believe in ancestral spirits like the Tribal Religions (African,
Aborigines, Native Americans). Others follow a prophet or a teacher like Buddah.
Some follow guru’s.
Some gods required human or animal sacrifices and had a High Priest who
represented them.
