Community Members and guests were taken on an adventurous journey down the rabbit hole and into “Wonderland” with a whimsical “Alice in Wonderland”

themed Mad Hatter Tea Party. Everyone was in full spirit wearing homemade “mad” hats and colourful clothing. A local harp and flute player provided entertainment.

V!VA BARRHAVEN GETS MAD!

Congratulations Marilyn!Community Member Marilyn Fenwick has received the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers. The medal recognizes the exceptional volunteer achievements of Canadians from across the country, and celebrates a wide range of voluntary contributions. For over 20 years, Marilyn has cared for over 200 dogs on behalf of the Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind. Congratulations, Marilyn,and thank you!

Models Needed!Alia N TanJay will be hosting a summer fashion show at V!VA Barrhaven and are looking for five female Community Members to be models. Please see Maegan or Shayna if interested.

Ladies Night Pajama Party!With Mother’s Day right around the corner, V!VA Barrhaven would like to celebrate the wonderful ladies of the Community in Mel’s Barr on Thursday, May 10th from 7:00pm – 9:00pm. We’ll be offering manicures and pedicures. Sign up at Concierge if you would like one as this special treat has limited spots available.

Thank a Nurse!Celebrated annually on May 12th, International Nurse’s Day marks the contributions nurses make to society. Don’t forget to thank the amazing nurses of V!VA Barrhaven, and we would like to thank all theCommunity Members who served as nurses, too!

In what was formerly Yugoslavia, children would tie up their mother on Mother’s Day. The only way she could get free would be give her children treats.

Approximately $14 billion dollars is spent on Mother’s Day. Common gifts include: cards, flowers (of course), meals in restaurants, jewelry, gift cards, clothing, trips to a spa, books,CDs, housewares and gardening tools.

One of the oldest woman to deliver a baby is a 65-year-old retired schoolteacher in India. On April 9th, 2003, Satyabhama Mahapatra gave birth to a baby boy, which was her first child after 50 years of marriage. (However, the eggs were donated by her 26 year-old niece.)

The shortest span between two babies is by Jayne Bleackley. She gave birth to her son on September 3rd, 1999. Then, only 208 days later, gave birth to her daughter on March 30th, 2000!

Elizabeth Ann Buttle gives a whole new meaning to second family. She gave birth to her first child on May 19th, 1956. Then, when she was 60 years-old, gave birth to her second child on November 20, 1997, making the babies 41 years 185 days apart.

Mother’s Day sees around one quarter of all flowers purchased throughout the year falling on this holiday.
