Keywords: moral value.

This research is intended to describe the moral values based on the main

character. In the other word is to describe the morality of the main character to

stem from individual moral, social moral, and religion moral. The researcher uses

a descriptive qualitative method with data analysis approach.

In this research the researcher uses the theory of moral/moral message by Burhan

Nurgiyantoro Teori Pengkajian Fiksi . In literary work, moral generally means

some suggestion that related with tenet of practical moral values, that can be

understands by the readers through the text story. The moral tenet itself included

problems of human life. Generally the problems of human life can be divided into

three parts interaction such as: interactions between human to themselves or the

person to him/herself, human to others and environment, and the interaction

between human to their God. From this study the researcher found three kinds of

moral values, there are some of the kinds of moral values: (1) Interactions of the

human to themselves is called individual moral, such as: discipline, confidence,

self-respect and bravery, responsibility and independence, patience, consistency,

hard worker and optimism. (2) Interactions of the human to others and

environment is called social moral, such as: solidarity to others, care to others,

help each other, and love to others. (3) Interactions of the human to their God is

called religion moral, such as: syukur/thanks to God, dzikir/remember to Allah,

tawakal/trust in God who orders everything, doa/pray to Allah, and obedient to

Allah and His messenger.

CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

A. Background of the Study

Prose is the one kinds of genres of literature. Prose is a form of

written language that is not organized according to the formal pattern of

verse. In the literature world prose also called narrative fiction, narrative

text, narrative discourse(Nurgiyantoro, 2010:02). It means that the narrative

fiction is a type of literature that describes imaginary people and events,

not real or true: existing only in stories. Most of the stories is a product

of the author knowledge and experience. Narrative fiction generally favors

prose for the writing of novels, and short stories.

Narrative fiction tells about some kinds of the problem of human life,

such as: the human interactions to themselves, to others/environment, and to

their God. Therefore, fiction consists of the story which concern to give

entertainment and all at once teach something to the readers. His

experience include moral values that became the principle of life. In

literary work, moral is generally representative the view of life of the

author. He wants to share about knowledge and his experience to the

readers.

Moral generally it means a type of human behavior as a consequence

of beliefs about what is right or wrong, good or bad, insofar, as that

behavior is useful or effective. In a sense, moral is the study of what

thought to be right and what is generally done by a group, society, or

culture. In a general moral correspond to what actually is done in a

society. However, right or wrong it is relative to be done. It means that

moral is studied as psychology, sociology, or anthropology, so each

societies has different moral codes. The people view about moral, values,

beliefs, generally influenced the way of life their society(Nurgiyantoro

2010:321).

The way of life and value both of them are the one of substance of

culture. Values are beliefs about what is right and what is important in

life. It means the values are something good, considered something that

very important of society. Values are the principles people use when

determining what they feel is right, wrong, bad or good. While the way of

life is values that accept and select by personal or societies. It means the

human behavior not opposite with norm, religion, social and law. The

values people use are often relations with a system beliefs called moral.

Moral is comes from the Latin word mores, meaning custom, tradition,

proper behavior. Moral often attributed to right and wrong, good and bad

of human behavior. Therefore, customs and traditions of societies became

to the standards people have when differentiating between right and wrong

and good and bad. Morals are beliefs and values that conform to normal

standards of what is right and wrong which deal with people’s habits of

conduct.

Novel which imitate of the real human life are related with the

functions literary work to entertain and benefit. We can get information,

entertainment, knowledge and tenet moral values from the reading novel.

According to Kenny(in Nurgiyantoro 2010:321), in literary work, moral is

generally means some suggestions that related with tenet of practical moral

values, that can understands by the readers through the text story. It is so

practical because we can find the like it in the real world, by the

characters that show their moral values through their action on the text

story. It shows the way of the author to share some of problem human

life. Values people include things such as attitudes, actions, fairness and

respects.

Rantau 1 Muara is the third of the trilogy negeri 5 menara books

written by A.fuadi Tempo correspondent, reporter for Voice of America

(VOA), photographer and a scholarship hunter. Alif Fikri is the main

character in this novel. This novel, is inspire based on the true story. This

novel tells about self consistency to reach the dreams. Dreams to get a

good job, to find soul-mate, and to get the goal of life or where the life

end. From the main character behavior the writer learn about honesty,

compassion, integrity, and cheerful. The writer takes it because it is very

entertaining and makes the writer enthusiastic to continue reach the

dreams.

B. Statement of the Problems

Based on the background of the study above, the problem is: What

is the moral value that is expressed in Ahmad Fuadi’s Novel Rantau

1 Muara?

C. Objective the Study

Related to the problem above, the objective of the study is: To

describe the moral values that are expressed in Ahmad Fuadi’s Novel

Rantau 1 Muara.

D. The Significant of the Study

In this research the writer expect that the study can support for the

development of literary study, especially among the people who are

interested and willing to study it. The writer also expect that the readers

can takes the moral values which expressed in the novel.

E. Scope and Limitation of the Study

To makes easier the study, the writer gives limitation of the study.

The thesis focuses on the studying of moral values in the novel Rantau 1

Muara, based on the moral behavior of main character, Alif fikri. His

moral values to himself and to others/environment and his moral values to

God.

F. Definition of Key Terms

The writer gives some definitions of the key terms to clarify the terms

that used in this researched.

1. Moral Value : in Literary work, moral is generally means some

suggestions that related with tenet of practical moral values, that can

be understand by the readers through the text story Kenny(In

Nurgiyantoro,2010:321).

2. Character: Character is the peoples who are showing in the

narrative fictions, or drama, which by the readers estimated have

the moral quality and a sure inclination through the word and

actions Abrams(In Nurgiyantoro, 2010:165).

3. Morality: Morality is the expression of heart through the actions of

human being(Suseno, 1987:58).

G. Organization of the Paper

The writer divided this paper into five chapters, the first chapter is

introduction, it contains of Background of the study, statement of the

problem, objective the study, significant of the study, scope and limitation

of the study, definition of the key terms, organization of the paper. The

second chapter is review of related literature to analysis the novel. In this

chapter consist all of related literatures which explain about the definition

of moral values. The third chapter is methodology, consists of research

method, data source, technique of collecting data, and technique of

analyzing data. The fourth chapter is analysis, and the thesis ended in fifth

chapter contains conclusion and suggestion followed by Bibliography.

CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

In this chapter, the writer would like to explore about review of

related literature that consists of Definition of Moral values, and The Kinds

of Moral Values.

A. The Definition of moral values

Talking about morals, we can’t separated with beliefs and values.

Morals, values, and beliefs are the terms that refer to the ways people

think, behave and react. Morals, values, and beliefs have the same

meaning, however they has a separate meaning of its own. Each terms

builds upon the other terms, beginning with beliefs. Values are a type of

belief, and morals are a type of value.

A.1. Beliefs

Belief is a strong feeling that something/somebody exist or true:

confidence that something/somebody is good or right. Something

that we believe, especially as part of our religion(Oxford Advanced

Learner’s Dictionary:1948). Beliefs are conclusions, assumptions and

explanations people use to make sense of their experiences.

Generally, beliefs are ways of thinking that are ignored in a person

by repetitive thinking and reacting to situations.

A.2. Values

Children learn about what is right and wrong, good or bad

from their parents and other members of the family. They learn

everything they need such as learn how to eat good, how to speak,

how to act etc. when they grow up they will have interacting with

others who is not usually a member of the family like

neighborhoods and societies. Children must be enable to conform

with them and able to adaptations with environment in where they

live. Children needs socialization in order to know how they should

act in the middle of societies and cultural environments. Finally we

learn about values since when we still young until now, we grow

and learn from the experience.

Studying a culture it means studying values people, its

something ideas of life that are they want. If we give expression to

values people, we are studying about them because values is the

standard people to distinguish between right and wrong, guidance

our choices and identify what is important in life. In the other

word values are the types belief a person has regarding to

distinguish between right and wrong, good and bad. Values are

considered the fundamental beliefs of people, it means that the

values are the collections of attitude, feeling or belief of good and

bad, right and wrong, noble and contemptible, and what are the

important and unimportant. Values people have included things such

as honesty, consistent, responsible, optimism, self confident, cheerful,

compassion, integrity, courage, fairness, and respect

A.3. Morals

Moral from the Latin word mos the plurals is mores its means

the custom or ways of life. Discusses about morals usually refer to

ethics, ethics and morals are has same meaning, but in the daily

life there are some differences. Morals or morality use to measure

which valued happening, while ethics use to studying of system

value that well done. Suseno(1987:14) differentiating between tenet of

moral and ethic.

Ajaran moral adalah wejangan-wejangan, khotbah-khotbah,

patokan-patokan, kumpulan peraturan dan ketetapan, entah

lisan atau tertulis, tentang bagaimana manusia harus hidup dan

bertindak agar ia menjadi manusia yang baik. Sumber langsung

ajaran moral bagi kita adalah pelbagai orang dalam kedudukan

yang berwenang, seperti orang tua dan guru, para pemuka

masyarakat dan agama, dan tulisan-tulisan para bijak. Etika

bukan sumber tambahan bagi ajaran moral, tetapi filsafat atau

pemikiran kritis dan mendasar tentang ajaran dan pandangan

moral. Etika adalah ilmu, bukan sebuah ajaran. Jadi etika dan

ajaran moral tidak berada ditingkat yang sama. Yang

mengatakan bagaimana harus hidup, bukan etika melainkan

moral.

From the quotation above its to show that the morals refer to the

tenet of right and wrong, good and bad which generally or society

acceptance. Therefore, customs and traditions of societies became to the

standard people have when differentiating between good and bad behavior.

While the ethics is the science and its not tenet, so the standard

differentiating of good and bad is the human mind. Ethic is more

theoretical characteristic, while the moral is practical characteristic.

A.4. Moral Values

Moral values are beliefs and values people that conform to

normal standards of what is right and wrong and deal with people

habits of conduct. The standard of the moral values is difference

between one society and other society. The difference standards of

morals and ethics is on the basic of determining or standards

measure right and wrong that used. be based on customs or

agreement that dealing with society. If the society regard that the

some behavior is a good so its also good for their values. Finally,

the characteristic standards of morals and ethics is local and

temporal. On the view Islamic religion, moral values is expressions

of heart through the actions of human being, the standard of moral

values is Alqur’an and Hadist/Sunnah. Therefore, a good moral

values is considered motivation from of people belief, because of

the beliefs must to shows in daily activity.

B. The Kinds of Moral Values

Moral values is the standards good or bad behavior, it is

common with ways people thinks and actions. When the peoples do

something usually getting reactions from others people. Positive

attitude usually getting a good reactions from others. According to

Nurgiyantoro(2010:323-324).

Jenis ajaran moral itu sendiri dapat mencakup masalah, yang

boleh dikatakan, bersifat tak terbatas. Ia dapat mencakup seluruh

persoalan hidup dan kehidupan, seluruh persoalan yang

menyangkut harkat dan martabat manusia. Secara garis besar

persoalan hidup dan kehidupan manusia itu dapat dibedakan

kedalam persoalan hubungan manusia dengan diri sendiri,

hubungan manusia dengan manusia lain dalam lingkup social

termasuk hubunganya dengan lingkungan alam, dan hubungan

manusia denganTuhannya.

From the quotation above the moral tenet is related with the

some interactions between human to themselves or the person to

her/himself, human to others people and environment, and the

interactions of the human to their God.

Persoalan manusia dengan dirinya sendiri dapat bermacam-

macam jenis dan tingkat intensitasnya. Hal itu tentu saja tidak

lepas dari kaitannya dengan persoalan hubungan antarsesama dan

dengan Tuhan. Pemisahan itu hanya untuk memudahkan

pembicaraan saja( Nurgiyantoro,2010:324).

According to quotation above, the writer making conclusion

about the kinds of moral values. In other word the kinds of morals

such as individual moral, social moral, and religion moral, the

explanation is the below :

1. Individual Moral is the attitude of the human to him/herself, its

means that human has the right to make their decisions and spirit

to do something or actions.

2. Social Moral is the attitude of the human to others consider the

environment, include action to help, paid of promise, compassion,

care etc. The personal freedom limited of the social freedom so, the

relationships between personal and social its very closed because

when the person takes actions usually get the reactions from the

others. Finally, as the human that life in society we should respect

each others.

3. Religion Moral is the attitude of the human to God which can they

show in daily activity, it means that all the activity are connected

with the worship of them. The person who are believing strongly in

the existence of a God its called religious.

CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

In this chapter, the writer would like to explains about research

methodology which consists of Research Method, Data Source, Technique

of Collecting Data, Technique of Analyzing Data.

A. Research Method

Research method on the basically is a scientific method of data

analysis. It means that the scientific is the manner to get data which have

the functions and purposes. Discusses about method always related with

methodology, both of them often interchanged as having the same

meanings. However, each has a separate meaning of its own. According to

Surajiyo(2008:90), the understanding about method is different with

methodology. Methods is a manners, ways, guideline to implementations or

technique until become practical characteristic. While the methodology can

also called science of method, it means that the methodology is the

science which study about manners, ways or practical guideline on the

research, so the research methodology study theory concept of various

method. Methodology was very important and provide the crucial steps that

are used in conducting scientific research.

To analyze Rantau 1 Muara novel, the writer used the descriptive

qualitative method with data analysis approach. The qualitative research is

descriptive, the data collected are in the form of words or pictures rather

than numbers(Bogdan and Bikle 1992:30). From this statement the writer

concludes that qualitative research is a method to analyze the data with all

of richness as closely as possible to the form in narrative form, the

written word is very important in the qualitative approach.

According to Bogdan and Biklen Qualitative researchers tend to

analyze their data inductively. They do not out data or evidence to prove

hypotheses they hold before entering the study; rather, the abstractions are

built as the particulars that have been gathered are grouped together.

Finally the goal of the research, the researcher must be enable to interpret

their experience in the process of the research. The research method used

in this study classified into three parts:

A.1. Data Source

The primary data of this study was taken from Ahmad Fuadi’s novel

Rantau 1 Muara (2013). Secondary data are taken from many literary books

that relevant materials to support and complete the primary data sources.

This study focused on the analysis of moral value that expressed in this

novel.

A.2. Technique of Collecting Data

The data was collected from the Ahmad Fuadi’s novel Rantau 1

Muara that contains many moral values. Reading it intensively,

understanding it, writing down all the information relevant to the topic of

discussion were the methods that were done. Finally the writer makes the

conclusion based on the data analyze.

A.3. Technique of Analyzing Data

The writer begins to analyze data from choosing the novel, than

reading it and understanding all sentences from the novel to identify moral

value that expressed in the novel. After that, the writer collecting reference

that relevant to analysis then all the information relevant to the topic of

discussion transcribe. In this analysis the writer uses the theory of

moral/moral message by Burhan Nurgiyantoro Teori Pengkajian Fiksi. In

the process of analysis it could be seen each kind of moral value.

CHAPTER IV

ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION

In this chapter, the writer attempt to analysis the moral values in

Ahmad Fuadi’s Novel Rantau 1 Muara. After read it intensively the writer

find many kinds of moral values expressed in this novel. The moral value

based on the actions of the main character, Alif Fikri.

A. Moral Values of The Novel Rantau 1 Muara

In this case the writer would like to explains about moral values of

the Fuadi’s Novel Rantau 1 Muara. The writer find three kinds of the

moral values in this novel, there are individual moral, social moral and

religion moral. The explanation of the kinds of moral is in the below:

A.1. Individual Moral

Individual moral is the attitude of the human to him/herself, its means

that human has the right to make their decisions and a spirit to do

something or actions. Everybody needs the individual moral, individual

moral support human to reach happiness and perfectly life as personality

through used all the potency, ability, and soft skill. Finally Individual

moral are very important things to walk of life.

A.1.1 Discipline

When we have expectation in anything we needs, we must control the

way our behave and make ourselves do things that we believe we should

do. We are the leaders of ourselves, we must leads ourselves to do

something which have the best values.

kemampuanku, belajar, membaca, menulis, dan berlatih

tanpa henti(R 1 M, 2013:08).

From the quotation above, Alif Fikri disciplined himself to exercise his

abilities in learning, reading, writing, and nonstop improving his

knowledge.

“Sus, jangan matikan dulu, masih mau baca nih.”kataku sambil

mengambil buku TOEFL………aku selalu merasa harus

membaca sebelum tidur(R 1 M, 2013: 109).

From the quotation above, Alif always learning TOEFL before go to

bed. He always do something perfectly to get the best result. we should

like him in order to succeed and discipline in everything, such as

discipline in works, daily activity, and discipline in time management.

A.1.2. Confidence

One of the factors that helps human to confident is a good self

concept. The self concept influential in behavior, if the self concept said

that he/she was able to be in love, respected, succeed and was able to do

things, so their behavior show what it same with their self concept. On the

contrary if the self concept said that he/she was not able to be in love

and respected, failed and was not able to do things, so their behavior

show anything which same with their self concept. Finally we should be

sure about our abilities to do thing and be successful.

Kami bersalaman dengan sentakan keras……….. Dadaku terbakar

rasa kesal. Lihat saja nanti. Aku akan mengalahkan Randai.

Persaingan yang panas tapi sehat. Fastabiqul khairat, berlomba-

lomba menuju kebaikan(R 1 M, 2013:28).

From the quotation above, he doesn’t like the conditions and he

willing to do things and makes one decision to be winner in everything.

He very trust in his abilities to do it and very confident to defeat his

friend.

“saya yakin kemampuan saya besar, tapi belum tertantang saja.

Beberapa minggu ini saya mulai bosan dengan rutinitas………

”oke siap Mas. Saya akan berjuang habis-habisan.”(R 1 M,

2013:114).

From the quotation above he doesn’t like something monotone and

bore in routines activity. He willing to do things that have a great

The health of humans soul is showed in their actions. when our soul

and our body healthy we can do anything and when we have done with

ourselves we can do things to others people. One of the important

characters of harmonious personality is responsible for many kinds of

responsibility such as responsible for our duties, families, jobs, clients,

friends, neighborhoods and person who have relations with us as

personality and general society.

health of soul. He/she able to keeps stability emotions and they don’t let

themselves to be weak or hopeless.

mendalami seluk-beluk komunikasi dan media. Tuition fee yang

help, compassions, care etc.

A.2.1. Solidarity to others

Beside of the family we have a good relationship with our friends. We

have friends in many case, in work place, school, environment where we

live. The word “friend” is refer to a person that we know and like, and

who is not usually a member of our family. Friends as a supporter to us

in many things such as : support an organization and a charity. We must

solidarity to others, solidarity is support by one person or group of people

for another because they share feelings, opinions, aims, etc.

Dalam sekejap, Indonesia dipenuhi demonstrsi seiring dengan

harga yang membubung dan kenaikan harga BBM. Aku dan Geng

Uno, walau sudah lulus, tetap ikut Bergabung dengan demo

mahasiswa sampai Gedung Sate(R 1 M, 2013:19).

Life contiguous with others we must open minded with something that

happening in daily life, we must adaptable with conditions and situations.

When somebody need the helps, we must help without requested, we must

In daily life we needs each others to makes easier our activity. We

needs other person to help us in many situations and conditions, so we

also should be giving them something that they need.

A.2.4. Love to others

Our love is not only for members of our family but it can be for our

friends. When we loves somebody we will miss them when they not

available beside us and we will very happy if they beside us. We really

A.3. Religion Moral

The value that related with God is also called divinity moral values, it

something interactions manage between human and God. On the other

word Religion moral is the attitude of the human to God which can they

show in daily activity, it means all the activities are connected with the

worship of them. The person who are believing strongly in the existence of

a God its called religious.

A.3.1. Syukur / Thanks to God

Syukur is the attitude of thanks to God, Allah. Syukur is demonstrate

by words and actions. syukur by words is praise to Allah by saying

hamdalah. while the syukur by actions is doing activity with all the

potency or something that our have like body part such as use the eyes to

read Commandment of God, Alqur’an.

Mataku rasanya berbinar-binar. “wah yang benar Bang, aku segera

meluncur ke kantor redaksi sekarang,” kataku terburu-buru. Selama di

Kanada aku banyak berkirim tulisan ke beberapa koran di Bandung,

tanpa tahu tulisan itu dimuat atau tidak. Aku hitung-hitung, honor

berbagai tulisan itu akan cukup melunasi uang kuliah dan membiayai

hidupku satu bulan lebih. Alhamdulillah(R 1 M, 2013:06).

tidak sakit, aku ingin peluk seerat-eratnya. Alhamdulillah, rasanya

Allah it means that he as the human didn’t have enough ability to control

A.3.2 Dzikir/ Remember to God

Dzikir to Allah is remembers to Allah by words or by hearts and by

actions in various situations and conditions. Dzikir to Allah is makes

ourselves to be calm and quiet. If the human always remembers to Allah

so Allah will be remembers them.

Dua minggu, walau rasanya mata sudah perih, tapi aku susah

memicingkan mata malam ini....................................Barulah setelah

Tahajud, hatiku berangsur tenang dan sejenak kemudian aku

akhirnya tertidur juga dengan pulas(R 1 M, 2013: 171).

A.3.3. Tawakal/ Trust in God who orders everything.

Tawakal to Allah is surrendering everything to Allah and waiting of

the result of work or waiting of the activity consequence. On the other

word when we have done in do something so we surrender all about

decisions to Allah. Tawakal isn’t surrender to conditions, but tawakal is

support us for hard at work, because of the Allah Almightiness, we should

allowed His decisions. Finally after we hard at work whatever the result or

consequence is never mind for us, we will accept it as the best something

for us, don’t be disappointed and hopeless.

Doa or Pray to Allah is requesting everything to Allah. Doa is

nucleus of worship, performs a religious service, its forms confessions of

the limitation capability as the human that life in the world and

confessions of the Almighty powers of God. Furthermore, Doa and effort

are form two duties of the human side that conform with daily activity of

Muslim.

Ketika merebahkan badanku di lantai musala yang dilapisi karpet tipis,

aku tatap baling-baling timpang yang berderit-derit di setentang

keningku. Dengan pelupuk mata yang berat, aku bubungkan doaku

terakhir sebelum tidur. Semoga doaku ditiup oleh baling-baling sampai

ke langit. Ya Allah, mudahkanlah jalanku menuntut ilmu ke negeri

orang. Lalu aku telungkupkan buku TOEFL ke mukaku, siapa tahu

malam ini isi buku ini mencair dan mengalir pindah ke otakku(R 1

dengan lemas sambil menggenggam erat syal itu. Badanku rasanya

lelah dan kakiku seperti tidak bertenaga menopang badan. Dinara

menguatkanku, ”Bang, siapa tahu mereka sudah keluar dari warung ini

waktu kejadian itu, atau sudah dievakuasi.” aku perlu prasangka baik

seperti ini. Aku ingin sekali percaya apa kata Dinara. Tapi aku tidak

tahu cara untuk membuktikan bahwa itu benar(R 1 M, 2013:348).

The relationships human to God is they must believe in God and

doing what Allah told to do. It means that as the human that believe in

God is must to obey the Allah instructions and to avoid what Allah

prohibitions.

Selesai mengatupkan kedua tanganku di wajah sebagai penutup doa,

aku ambil Alquran kecil di rak musala. Hari kamis malam Jumat

biasannya jadwalku membaca Yasin. Aku niatkan mengirimi

kebaikan bacaan mulia ini untuk almarhum Ayah dan keluargaku

yang telah mendahului kami(R 1 M, 2013:149).

didn’t forget to perform Friday prayer. Before he known there is a place

that very closes from his university to perform Friday prayer, he usually

do it at ambassador Indonesian musala, musala is small building or room

set aside in a public place for performance of religious duties.

Seperti nasihat Kiai Rais dulu, muara manusia adalah menjadi hamba

sekaligus khalifah di muka Bumi. Sebagai hamba, tugas kita adalah

mengabdi. Sebagai kholifah, tugas kita bermanfaat. Hidup adalah

happen to him such as why he was born to the world, life for what/who

and what should he do. He tried to understand about all that happen to

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

A. CONCLUSION

In this chapter the writer is going to draw a conclusion about moral

values that expressed in Fuadi’s novel Rantau 1 Muara. From this analysis

the writer found three kinds of moral values. The first is the actions of

main character to himself, as individual moral. The second is the actions

of main character to his environment, in this case includes the action of

After analyzing the kinds of moral values, the writer found some

contents of each moral. For the first is about Individual Morals are

discipline, confidence, self-respect and bravery, responsibility and

independence, hard worker and optimism, patience, and consistency. The

second is about Social Morals the contains are solidarity to others, care to

others, help each other, and love to others. The third is about Religion

Morals are syukur/thanks to God, dzikir/remember to God, tawakal/trust in

God who orders everything, doa/pray to Allah, obedient to Allah and His

messenger.

Based on the statement above, the contents of the novel is more

dominant to good moral values. It contains about the morality of main

character that has good attitude to all of people around him. He is very

good as the individual and social personal, he has the attitude that can

conform in many situations and conditions. We can take some kinds of

morals in this novel as a role of our life. It is a wonderful way to

improve our behavior and develop our intelligent spiritual.

B. SUGGESTION

Based on the explanations above, the writer would like to give

suggestions for the readers and the further researchers. For the readers, this

study is expected to enrich knowledge about value of life that very

important things for our life. So enrich your knowledge by reading science

books and reads of many literary books, especially novel. For the further

researchers, it is hoped that the study of moral value in the Fuadi’s novel

Rantau 1 Muara can be inspired continuing research in different novel by

similar study.

SYNOPSIS

Kepercayaan diri Alif sedang menggelegak. Sudah separuh dunia dia

kelilingi, tulisannya tersebar di banyak media, dan dia diwisuda dengan

nilai terbaik. Perusahaan mana yang tidak tergiur merekrutnya?

Namun Alif lulus di saat yang salah. Akhir ’90-an, Indonesia dicekik

krisis ekonomi dan dihoyak reformasi. Lowongan pekerjaan sulit dicari.

Kepercayaan dirinya goyah, bagaimana dia bisa menggapai impiannya?

Secercah harapan muncul ketika Alif diterima menjadi wartawan di

ibu kota. Di sana, hatinya tertambat pada seorang gadis yang dulu pernah

dia curigai. Ke mana arah hubungan mereka?

Takdir menerbangkan Alif ke Washington DC. Life is perfect, sampai

terjadi tragedi 11 september 2001 di New York yang menggoyahkan

jiwanya. Kenapa orang dekatnya harus pergi? Alif dipaksa memikirkan

ulang misi hidupnya. Dari mana dia bermula dan ke mana dia akhirnya

akan bermuara?

‘mantra’ ketiga” man saara ala darbi washala” (siapa yang berjalan

di jalannya akan sampai di tujuan) menuntun pencarian misi hidup Alif.

Hidup hakikatnya adalah perantauan. Suatu masa akan kembali ke akar, ke

Rantau 1 Muara adalah kisah pencarian tempat berkarya, pencarian

belahan jiwa, dan pencarian di mana hidup akan bermuara.

BIOGRAPHY

Ahmad Fuadi lahir di Bayur, kampung kecil di pinggir Danau

Maninjau tahun 1972. Fuadi merantau ke Jawa, mematuhi permintaan

ibunya untuk masuk sekolah agama. Di Pondok Modern Gontor dia

bertemu dengan kiai dan ustad yang diberkahi keikhlasan mengajarkan

ilmu hidup dan ilmu akhirat. Gontor pula yang mengajarkan kepadanya

“mantra” sederhana yang sangat kuat, man jadda wajada, siapa yang

bersungguh-sungguh akan berhasil.

Lulus kuliah Hubungan Internasional, UNPAD, dia menjadi wartawan

Tempo. Tahun 1999, dia mendapat beasiswa Fulbraight untuk kuliah S-2 di

School of Media and Public Affairs, George Washington University, USA.

Merantau ke Washington DC bersama Yayi _____ istrinya _____ adalah

mimpi masa kecilnya yang menjadi kenyataan. Sambil kuliah, mereka

menjadi koresponden Tempo dan wartawan Voice of America (VOA). Berita

bersejarah seperti tragedi 11 september dilaporkan mereka berdua langsung

dari Pentagon, White House, dan Capitol Hill.

Menjadi seorang scholarship hunter, hingga kini Fuadi telah

memdapatkan sembilan beasiswa untuk belajar di luar negeri. Tahun 2004,

dia mendapatkan beasiswa Chevening Award untuk belajar di Royal

Holloway, University of London. Dia telah mendapat kesempatan tinggal

dan belajar di Kanada, Singapura, Australia, Amerika Serikat, Italia, dan

Inggris.

Negeri 5 Menara telah diangkat ke layar lebar tahun 2011 dan

buku ini mendapatkan penghargaan: Nominasi Khatulistiwa Award 2010 dan

Penulis & Buku fiksi Terfavorit 2010 versi Anugerah Pembaca Indonesia.

Pada 2011, Fuadi dianugerahi Liputan6 Award, SCTV untuk kategori

motivasi dan pendidikan. Penulis Terbaik IKAPI dan Juara 1 Karya Fiksi

Terbaik Perpusnas. Tahun 2012, terpilih sebagai resident di Bellagio Center,

Italia dan tahun 2013 mendapat penghargaan dari DJKHI Kemenkumham

untuk kategori Karya cipta Novel.

Fuadi telah diundang jadi pembicara di berbagai acara internasional

seperti Frankfurt Book Fair, Ubud Writers Festival, Singapore Writers

Festival, Salihara Literary Biennale, Makassar Writers Featival, serta Bay

Writers Festival di Australia.

Penyuka fotografi ini pernah menjadi Direktur Komunikasi The

Nature Conservancy, sebuah NGO konservasi internasional. Kini, Fuadi

sibuk menulis, menjadi public speaker, serta membangun yayasan social

untuk membantu pendidikan anak usia dini yang kurang mampu ___

Komunitas Menara.

Karya Fuadi adalah sebagai berikut : Trilogi Negeri 5 Menara

diantaranya adalah Negeri 5 Menara, Ranah 3 Warna, dan Rantau 1

Muara. Untuk novel Negeri 5 Menara telah diterjemahkan kedalam bahasa

inggris dengan judul The LAND of FIVE TOWERS.
