For over 25 years AMA have been at the
forefront of property developing in Edinburgh.
From the early days of restoring magnificent
individual city centre townhouses, to today’s
landmark developments at St Vincent Place
and Springside, we have applied the same
rigorous standards, attention to detail and
flair which have built our enviable reputation.
With Muirhead and Hunter, we have applied aquarter of a century of experience in restoring periodproperties, and added the style, quality and comfortexpected from an AMA home. The result is fourbeautiful homes.
Hunter Cottage and Muirhead Lodge arecontemporary in style, with one and three bedroomsrespectively. Their neighbours, Muirhead House
and Hunter House are superb four/five bedroomvillas, lovingly restored to their former glory.
We are delighted with what we’ve achieved atCraigmillar Park, we hope you will be too.
personal development
03
a short history
Craigmillar Park’s history stems back to the
early 1800s, when a decision was made to
continue the broad avenue of Minto Street
south, to provide better access to and from
the centre of Edinburgh and open up the then
farmland for future residential development.
This gradual expansion of the city boundary enabledthe wealthier residents to move away from thecrowded tenements of the city centre and into thegrander houses being constructed in the newsuburbs.
04
Muirhead House and Hunter House were built inthe 1870s. Set within their own extensive privategrounds, these majestic villas were fine examplesof the style and craftsmanship of the late Victorianperiod. The grand rooms, with their high ceilings, featuring beautiful plasterwork, were illuminatedby tall windows allowing light to flood into thespacious interiors.
By the early 20th Century, the houses had beenacquired by St Margaret’s School to be used asclassrooms for their expanding intake of pupils. The school was spread about several buildings inthe area and around 1930 they added an annexe toHunter House, which now forms Hunter Cottage. In 1983 the school extended Muirhead House andthis has now been separated from the main houseto form Muirhead Lodge.
05
a new beginning
The development of Muirhead and Hunter
provided two major challenges - providing
homes for the 21st century whilst retaining
and enhancing the beautiful features of the
original buildings.
In the main houses we have chosen to adopt arestrained approach. Whilst we have completelyoverhauled the properties we have looked to restoreand reinstate original features wherever possibleallowing the original style and craftsmanship toshine through.
The Lodge and Cottage never had the decorativedetailing of their grand neighbours, so we haveadopted a contemporary styling, providing clutter-free interiors with modern architectural finishes.
06
Stunning German-made kitchens, installed byKitchens International, form the heart of the homesand feature built-in appliances from Siemens-Bosch.
The bathrooms, shower rooms and en-suites havemodern white suites and stylish hardwood-veneeredbulkheads and lighting pelmets.
Flooring throughout the properties is either a wool-mix carpet or engineered hardwood boards, withhigh quality sheet vinyl used for bathrooms andshower rooms.
