An adventure

of love

This morning I had a little walk down amnesia

lane, remembering when our son, John, got his

first pair of roller-skates. We put his feet into the

skates, laced them, and stood him up. You know

what would happen next.

After helping him get back to his feet and after he

had fallen a few more times, he cautiously inched

his way back and forth on the carport along the

wall of our house. Since Sarah was there in her

skates, encouraging her little brother, I went back

inside to watch the evening news.

As I sat down and reached for the remote I heard something I didn’t recog-

nize. Looking out the window I saw John David, still in his skates, running in the

grass along side the sidewalk. He was chasing Sarah, whose interest in her little

brother’s new skating ability turned to her own skating adventure. What a sight!

John David liked the new adventure of roller-skating, but the knew the side-

walk meant that he might fall again. He wanted adventure, but avoided it because of

the risk.

I think we’re all like John David. We like and want the adventure of new re-

lationships, greater heights of Christian service, and deeper levels of commitment to

Christ and his church, but we don’t always want the risks involved. We want to

know and to show love in greater ways but we are unwilling, sometimes, to meet the

demands which love requires of us. We don’t always want to make ourselves vulner-

able.

Now, with a little encouragement, interest and help John got back on his feet,

took the risk, and eventually learned to roller-skate. Jesus took the risk of love for us.

He encourages, and delights in us, and will help us to take the risk of love.

It is a great adventure … So, let us learn to love even more.

CHOIR NOTES

This Sunday, we will introduce a new

praise song, "Come As You Are," writ-

ten by David Crowder. It encourages us

to lay down our burdens and come as

we are to our Lord and God.

The choir will sing a traditional spiritu-

al, 'I Got a Robe." It features a wonder-

ful repeating bass line.

See you Sunday!

Hope & Guild will continue meeting through June and will begin meet-

ing as a combined circle July 8, 2015 at 1:00pm.

“Ask not what your

children’s ministry can

do for you, but what

you can do for your

children’s ministry!” –

JFK

Our new VBS-Style

Sunday School has in-

corporated songs, skits,

small groups, and even

games as we’ve utilized

fun new themes to draw

attention to timeless

truths!

Over the last few

months our children’s

Sunday School class has grown, and we are seeing lots of

new faces on Sunday mornings!!

Many of these children have no real church experience, and

this may be their first time attending a church on a

regular basis!

HOW EXCITING!!!

For this important ministry to continue we need your help! There’s

a lot that goes into making Sunday meaningful for children.

Most of our young people do not have a parent that drives them to

church, instead the church van must go and get them. After they

arrive we feed them a light-snack breakfast, because many of them

do not eat breakfast on the weekends. They attend their Sunday

school class while the young adults slip away for a few minutes of

study and conversation. After Sunday School, we try to sit quietly

together in the sanctuary observing and absorbing worship and an-

swering the whispers…“Why do we pray so much? What’s com-

munion, can I have some? Why do I have to sit still while that guy

talks?” Then it’s back on the van, to drop everyone off!

What a joy it is to serve these little ones, and their families! There

are many ways to be involved with our Children’s ministries –

Would you consider partnering with us over the summer to drive a

Sunday School Van, Serve Pop-Tarts, Teach Class for a Week, or

Sit With the Children in the Sanctuary

Upcoming Plans:

June 1st - 5th – Chi Rho camp @ Oakridge
