Way - Whitehouse Memorial AMVETS Post 35 Inc Commanders Message June was a busy month for the Post. The month of May ended with a bang as we had our Annual Golf Scholarship Tournament on May 10 th raising $7,500.00 for next year’s scholarship winners. My personal thanks to all the vol- unteers that helped make this event the success that it was. A special thank you goes to all the Ladies Auxiliary members who coordinated this event and all the other volunteers. This event could not be the success it is eve- ry year without these volunteers. June 12-14 we had 13 AMVET Delegates at the AMVETS De- partment of Florida Annual Con- vention. A good time was had by all and there were several excel- lent training sessions on Saturday afternoon that I think were bene- ficial to both our seasoned of- ficer’s and our new ones. Check your calendar in the news- letter and you will see there is always something going on at our post. So come on down, have fun and get involved. We have our Family Day coming up on the 17 th of this month. It is going to be a great time. I hope to see a lot of you there. We will be serving Burgers “your way”, hot dogs, and all the fixins’ for $5.00 a plate. Mary Hafner has been working hard on this and she has a lot of games for everyone to play. All proceeds will be going to the Wounded Warrior Founda- tion in Tonya Bryant’s name. There were 5 Auxiliary members who went to the Department Con- vention on June 12 th -14 th . I would like to congratulate Jerri Devoll on being our Department Chaplain again this coming year. And I would like to also congrat- ulate Wanda McDermon on being appointed our new Executive Secretary. She is replacing Linda Hoon who served for 6 years and has decided to step down. I am sure they both will do an amazing job in their positions. Our next meeting is Tuesday July 7th at 7:00pm. I hope to see you all there. I hope everyone has a safe 4th of July. Yours in Service Duan Marie Byrd Auxiliary President Lois Flitcraft and Michelle Brack with the “Catch of the Day!!!” Javier Hernandez, Michelle Brack, Lois Flitcraft, Kevin Hicks, Craig Sarrasin, and Bob Mofford.

Riders I would like to take this oppor-tunity to inform everyone I was elected Chapter 35 Riders Presi-dent for the upcoming year and look forward to serving the Post in that position. The Riders will be busy in the next few months planning our annual USO Poker Run, which will be on the 19th of September. This event has grown each year and we hope for it to continue. We are also planning an event in mid- October, Horse Races on the deck. More to come on that, but I ensure you it will be entertaining and a lot of fun. The Riders membership has de-creased over the last few years, I would like to ask the members of the Post to talk to people you may know that ride and tell them about our group. This may help the Riders to increase our mem-bership and interest new members to the Post. Again, I look forward to the up-coming year as the Riders Presi-dent, feel free to ask me any question concerning the Riders.

“I was drivin' through Florida in late July

On a day hot enough to make the devil sigh…”

Sound like a song, but we’re here already! Summer, and a hot one! Come out to the Post for some cool refreshments and visit with good friends. There’s a lot going on this summer! For those who missed the Con-vention, I hope you’ll consider going next year. It’s a great expe-rience for you, and you’re able to learn a lot. You’ll also get to meet others from around the state and compare notes on some of their good practices – we really get some good ideas there. Glenn Rhyne is trying to get to-gether some horseshoe players, but first we’ll need to get the pits in shape. Some of it has been completed, but there’s still more to do. If you want to help out, or if you want to play, get in touch with Glenn. And a big shout out to those of you who helped with the Scholar-ship Golf Tournament! After it was all totaled, the programs re-ported for this event were around $36,000. Pat yourselves on the back, give yourselves a hand! Next year we’ll be able to present around $7500 in scholarships to local high school seniors. Fantas-tic job! I’m still looking for additional projects that we can get involved in as an organization. If you’ve got something you’d be interested in heading up, bring it to me and we’ll get it started! Yours in Service, Liz Westby [email protected]
