AMVETS Jonathan M Wainwright Post #1111 Walla Walla, Washington

This 1946 Lincoln was presented to General & Mrs. Wainwright by the City of Walla Walla with A special license plate bearing the insignia:

“VJ 8-14-45 JMW WASHINGTON 1945” From Walla Walla they go on to see Coulee Dam and later will view Bonneville Dam, two

points he definitely wanted to visit. From Coulee they will go back to Mrs. Wainwright's former hometown, Spokane, and then on to the Columbia river by way of Pasco, the Wallula Gap and on down to Cellio Falls, where they have been assured they will see some Indians fishing as their forefathers did even in the days of the 1883 trek for the army and the Wainwrights from Walla Walla to California.

Their travels will take them on down the world famed Columbia river drive into Portland and

on a northern swing through Longview and Olympia and then to a looked for week-end at Mount Rainier before visiting Tacoma and Seattle. After spending Thanksgiving with the general's sister they plan a quiet trip to Victoria and Vancouver, B.C., and then a return to Seattle and a leisurely drive to California, Arizona, Texas and then back to New York.

Commander Corner:

We are again coming up on the time of year in which we elect new officers for the coming year. We will be forming a nominating committee at our next post meeting, (Mar 16, 2005) which will have the duty of selecting nominees for all officer positions. You are encouraged to volunteer for service on this committee, or to place yourself in nomination for one of these positions. All post members are eligible to serve in an officer position and only by this method can we assure the post operates in the manner you desire. I, regretfully have to say that for several personal reasons, I will not be available to serve as an officer in the forthcoming year.

In addition, we are going to be re-writing the Post By-Laws for approval at our Annual Meeting. If you have any changes you would like to see incorporated, now is the time to get them in-cluded. Every post member has a right to have his or her thoughts included and is encouraged to do so. Lee
