Amsterdam Comedy Festival Programme

WELCOME! Welcome to the fourth edition of the Amsterdam Comedy Festival.

We are proud to present you a fine selection of internationally renowned comedians from the UK, USA, Ireland, Australia and even Belgium and the Netherlands...

There are shows on four stages in the Melkweg building: the MAX and Oude Zaal on the ground floor; the Theater and Cinema on the 2nd floor, accessible through the stairs that start in the Melkweg entrance hall.

Stages are partly programmed simultaneously. Relax and zap from show to show. We do have a full = full policy. At the entrance of each room, we have positioned very charming hosts, recognisable by their t-shirts. They decide when the room is full, and will be able to tell you what’s going on at other stages. Also there is an info desk at the entrance of the Melkweg. So if you happen to bump into a closed door: don’t worry too much and check out a comedian you didn’t know yet – you will be pleasantly surprised.

WELKOM!Welkom op de vierde editie van het Amsterdam Comedy Festival.

En wat voor één: niets dan internationaal vermaarde comedians deze keer, uit Engeland, Amerika, Australië, Ierland maar ook Nederland en België.

In vier zalen van de Melkweg vinden optredens plaats: De Max en Oude Zaal op gelijkvloers; het Theater en de Cinema op het tweede verdiep, te bereiken via de trap die begint in de foyer van de Melkweg.

Op elk moment van de avond zijn verschillende shows aan de gang. Lekker zappen dus. Wel geldt overal een vol = vol beleid. Bij alle za-len staan hosts die de in- en uitloop van het publiek begeleiden. Zij bepalen wanneer de zaal vol is en zij kunnen je alles vertellen over het programma dat elders in de Melkweg aan de gang is. Ook is er een infobalie bij de entree van de Melkweg. Het kan dus gebeuren dat je een keer voor een gesloten deur komt te staan omdat de zaal vol is; probeer het sportief op te vatten en laat jezelf in een andere zaal verrassen door comedians die je nog niét kende.

NICK HELM (UK)Up-and-coming comedian with a powerful and above all hilarious blend of one-liners, stories, poems and songs. Een van Engelands grootste comedy talenten met een unieke collectie grappen, liedjes, gedichten en verhalen.

DANNY BEVINS (USA)His mouth has gotten him arrested, fined and fired from every regular job he’s ever had, and we are very thankfull for that. Een even charmante als sarcastische wijsneus met een grote mond – die ervoor zorgde dat hij nog nooit in zijn leven een vaste baan ook vast kon houden. Gelukkig maar.

DAVE FULTON (USA)Time Out London wrote about him: ‘He’s intelligent, remarkably relaxed on stage and clearly out to create a bit of mischief.’ We joyfully agree. Time Out London schreef over hem: ‘...represents the tough talking, risk-taking school of yankee comics.’ Geen woord van gelogen.

THOMAS SMITH (B)Top comedian from Belgium, tonight focusing on his British roots with an English spoken set. Witty and playfull. Een echte Belg die zich vanavond op zijn Britse roots concentreert met een Engelse set. Slimme, charmante stand-up.

RICHARD HERRING (UK)Two year after Hitlers Moustache, ‘one of the hidden masters of modern British comedy’ (British Theatre Guide) is now having his way with Jesus Christ. Yummie. Twee jaar na zijn controversiële show Hitlers Moustache, richt ‘één van de best bewaarde geheimen van de moderne Britse comedy’ (volgens de Britisch Theatre Guide) zijn pijlen op Jezus Christus. Lekker.

GREG SHAPIRO (NL / USA)From Chicago, living in Amsterdam since ‘94, member of Boom Chicago and likes to give a masterclass on Dutch identity - to the point and very, very funny. Afkomstig uit Chicago, Amsterdammer sinds ‘94, lid van Boom Chicago, geeft graag een masterclass Nederlandse identiteit - confronterend, herkenbaar en erg, erg grappig.

DAVID O’ DOHERTY (IRE)Irish comedian, writer, actor and musician. Known and loved for his hilarious songs played on a miniature electronic keyboard. A true comedy hero. Ierse comedian, schrijver, acteur én muzi-kant. Speelt hilarische songs op een miniatuur keyboard en heeft het daarbij liefst van al over een zo idioot mogelijk onderwerp. Kortom: een held.

AVA VIDAL (UK)Mom of two, ex-prisonguard, lethally funny. Performed at the Michael McIntyre Comedy Roadshow, Comedy Central, Edinburgh and Beyond.... Really happy to have her! Moeder van twee, ex-cipier en dodelijk grappig. Verschijnt zo vaak op tv dat ze de tel al lang kwijt is: BBC’s Michael McIntyre Comedy Roadshow, Comedy Central, Edinburgh and Beyond... Trots dat ze komt!

EARL OKIN (UK)A headline act on the London comedy scene since the 1980s. Calls himself a musical genius and sex symbol. What more do you want? Al sinds de jaren ’80 een vaste waarde in de Londense comedy scene. Noemt zichzelf een ‘muzikaal genie en sex symbool’. Trad op bij Raymann is Laat én op North Sea Jazz. Aanradertje.

WIL HODGSON (UK)Former college lecturer ánd wrestler, known and loved for his fast monotone delivery and his love of 1980s girl’s toys such as Care Bears and My Little Pony. Voormalige leraar én worstelaar voorzien van fel roze haar en hilarische anekdotes die als een monotone pletwals van oneliners over het publiek denderen.

BOOM CHICAGO (NL / USA)English speaking household name in the Dutch (improv) comedy presenting an exclusive preview of their show ‘September 11 Forever’ premiering at the Chicago Social Club on Leidseplein in August. Vaste waarde in het Nederlandse (improvisatie) cabaret. Presenteren exclusieve preview van hun nieuwe show ‘September 11 Forever’ die in augustus in première gaat in de Chicago Social Club op Leidseplein.

HEATHER KNIGHT PRESENTS DATA (USA)Data is the future of comedy. Or is he? A robot doing jokes. No joke. Heather Knight is a renowned roboticist and Data is really funny. Data is de toekomst van comedy. Of niet? Een robot die grappen vertelt. Geen grap. Heather Knight is een gerenommeerde roboticus en Data is echt grappig.
