He completed a transitional residency at St. Thomas Hospital , Akron Ohio (1985) and a General Surgery residency at the University of Calgary (1989). He trained as a critical care fellow at the University of Calgary and as a Trauma fellow at Carraway Methodist Medical Centre. Dr. Moore is currently vice chairman of the Department of Surgery at UCHSC. Dr. Moore is chief of Trauma Services at the Rocky Mountain Regional Trauma Center and chief of the Department of Surgery at Denver Health Medical Center. He is past president of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma. Dr. Moore serves as medical advisor for Steamboat Springs Ski Patrol. Dr. Moore is widely published on trauma and has presented for the American College of Surgeons. He serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Trauma and Journal of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Moore is associate editor for the American Journal of Surgery. He is active in clinical trials and is

currently researching trauma under multiple grants and awards from the National Institutes of Health.

JUAN CARLOS PUYANA, MD (USA) El Dr. Juan Carlos Puyana es cirujano de Trauma y Profesor Asociado de Cirugía en la Universidad de Pittsburgh. El Dr. Puyana obtuvo su título en medicina de La Pontificia Universidad Javeriana de Bogotá, Colombia, en Enero de 1983. Realizó su internado en el Hospital Militar de Bogotá, donde fue galardonado con el " interno más sobresaliente del año”. En 1984 se incorporó al departamento de Cirugía en la Universidad McGill en Montreal, Canadá. Completó su residencia en Cirugía General en el Hospital Royal Victoria, de la Universidad McGill, y supra especialización de Trauma y Cuidados Críticos en la Universidad de

Yale. En 1992 se unió a la Universidad de Massachusetts como profesor asistente de la Universidad de Harvard y Director de la UCI Quirúrgica en el West Roxbury VA Medical Center. En 1998, el Dr. Puyana fue nombrado profesor asistente de cirugía en la Universidad de Harvard y se convirtió en el director del programa de Cuidados Intensivos Quirúrgicos en el Brigham and Women’s Hospital en Boston. Como médico, el doctor Puyana es un Cirujano activo en trauma y Cuidados Críticos de trabajo en el centro más grande de trauma de Nivel Uno y de Cuidado Intensivo de Pennsylvania. Es miembro del Comité de Trauma del Colegio Americano de Cirujanos. Dr. Puyana ha sido mentor y entrenado a varios médicos colombianos en Investigación de Trauma clínica desde el inicio de la formación de becas en 2006. Dr. Puyana is a trauma surgeon and Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Puyana obtained his medical degree from Javeriana University in Bogotá, Colombia, in January 1983. He completed a rotating internship at the Military Hospital in Bogotá, where he was awarded the “most outstanding intern of the year” award. In 1984 he joined the department of surgery at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He completed his residency in general surgery at the Royal Victoria Hospital, McGill University, and his Clinical Trauma and Critical Care fellowship at Yale University. In 1992 Dr. Puyana joined the University of Massachusetts as assistant professor with a dual appointment as an instructor at Harvard University and Director of the Surgical ICU at the West Roxbury VA Medical Center. In 1998, Dr. Puyana was appointed assistant professor of surgery at Harvard University and became the director of the surgical critical care program at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He started the surgical critical care fellowship program at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital which became certified by ACGMED in 1999. Dr. Puyana became an associate researcher in the Center for Integration in Medicine and Innovative Technology (CIMIT) and became the Director of the Combat Casualty Care and Critical Care research core of CIMIT from 1999 to 2001. Dr. Puyana joined the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh in 2001 with a dual appointment as Associate Professor of Surgery and Critical Care Medicine and Director of the Trauma/Surgical ICU at Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. In Colombia, including a Collaborative Trauma and Injury Research Training Program (ICTIRT) in Cali, an Informatics Training for Global Health (ITGH) also in Bogota, and a Capacity building program for Decompressive Craniotomy in a Multicenter Study in Neiva, Valledupar and Bogota -Colombia. Dr. Puyana is involved in promoting research, educational opportunities, and clinical collaborations in Latin America. As a clinician, Dr. Puyana is an active trauma and Critical Care Surgeon working in the Largest Level One Trauma center and Acute Care Center in Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Puyana has mentored and trained Several Colombian physicians in Clinical Trauma Research since the inception of the training grant in 2006.
