Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) Delivering Marines, weapons and equipment from ship to shore and beyond, the Landing Craft Air Cushioned (LCAC) is a “hovercraft,” riding at high- speeds on a cushion of air. Landing Craft Utility (LCU) When you think of “Marines hitting the beach,” picture the Landing Craft Utility (LCU). The next gen- eration of LCU is being developed, and will be more efficient, easier to operate and maintain and more operationally effective. Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAV) Capable of carrying 21 combat- loaded Marines, a .50 caliber machine gun and grenade launcher, armored Amphibious Assault Vehicles (AAV) are typically the first vehicles to land during assaults.
