21st century interpretation

from Blanc de Bierges

Classical form -practical, contemporaryapplications.Working closely with key architects

and specifiers, we have invested

significant research and development

with an aim to create a practical cost

effective amphitheatre solution. The

culmination of this work is our unique

AmphiSystemTM, designed around a

practical, modular approach.

The origin of the amphitheatre can be

traced back to the ancient Romans,

where large central performance spaces

surrounded by ascending seating, and

were commonly used for spectator

sports; these compare more closely to

modern open-air stadia.

Origins of the amphitheatre

An original Roman exampleMyra, Turkey

Nowadays, the principles of the

amphitheatre can be employed as an

elegant yet practical solution to a level

change, or as a feature in its own right.

As a unifying feature for walkways or

public spaces it can provide a pleasing

focus to schemes large or small.

Until now, architects and specifiers have

been bound by a restricted number of

components which provided limited

scope for creative proposals.

AmphiSystemTM, is designed to cut

across these restrictions providing cost

effective practical flexibility with easy

installation. As a result, AmphiSystemTM

can be deployed in types of schemes that

previously could not accommodate an

amphitheatre feature.

Contemporary amphitheatres are more

typically used for theatrical or concert

performances and typically feature

traditional, theatrical-style configuration

- with the audience only on one side only,

usually at an arc of less than a semicircle.

This arrangement resembles the theatres

of ancient Greece and Turkey.

The AmphiSystemTM can be specified as an elegant yet

practical solution to a level change, or as a feature in its

own right. Blending seamlessly with Blanc de Bierges

paving and walling solutions, it can be incorporated to

unify a scheme whether large or small.

Though AmphiSystemTM is a modular system, our state

of the art manufacturing processes coupled with our

wide experience of varied schemes means that we can

accommodate bespoke elements where desired. For

example special features, such as lighting & step units,

can be incorporated to add flair and functionality to the

installation.

AmphiSystemTM can provide the ultimate in

practicality where seating/stepped areas are

required.

Style with substance

AmphiSystemTM

Accommodates almost any radius:

From 2.3m to

Width: 140mm to 575mm

Height: 140mm to 540mm

Thickness: 40 to 65mm

Width

Height

Thickness

Removing the complexity of calculation, the

AmphiSystemTM is based on modular deflections, to

allow radii from 2.3m up to 13.1m to be accommodated.

With increments of 0.9m the system is designed to offer

flexibility and easy integration with other Blanc de

Bierges products.

The usual arrangement of components includes Setts

between the RTC panel and the RTP panel above.

This provides flexibility and visual interest as well as

delineating the seating/ tread areas.

The principal components of the system are manufactured

to provide designers with the creative freedom to

incorporate amphitheatres with ease and architectural

flair. Made in our Cheshire stoneworks to the same quality

standard as all our products, the AmphiSystemTM offers

cost effective and practical time savings on installation.

The system is based upon two principle components -

RTP* and RTC* units - which together form the basic

building structure. With a calculated

deflection within a specified

radius, these units create the

amphitheatre form.
