Place: a typical house- Joe's home.Time: night-time (dusk-late evening, allowing the location to be dark.)
The place and time come together as part of the mise en scene, which very much connotes horror. Again, the location is an average, every day location that people can relate to and therefore feel frightened by. A house-
especially a dark house- is also a very conventional place for a horror. By this, the setting follows conventions.
