Worlds Biggest ColorlessDiamond May Fetch $20Million

A pear-shaped colorless diamondweighing 101.73 carats. The D-colorflawless stone, the largest of its typeever offered for public sale, will beincluded in a Christie's International

jewelry auction at the Four SeasonsHotel des Bergues in Geneva,Switzerland, on May 15.

This is the first time the gem has ap-peared for sale and the buyer will beable to name it, the London-basedcompany said today in an e-mail.The stone was recently cut from arough diamond, weighing 236carats, that had been found at theJwaneng mine in Botswana. It took21 months to polish, said Christies.Demand for the rarest diamonds asan alternative asset and portable

store of value has pushed up pricesin recent years.

At the top end of the market, whitestones are regarded as less desir-able as their even rarer coloredequivalents. The record price for anygem at auction is the 45.4 millionfrancs ($45.6 million) paid by theLondon dealer Laurence Graff for a24.78-carat emerald-cut Fancy In-

tense Pink at Sothebys, Geneva, inNovember 2010.
