Why do better homes haveSlant/Fin hot water baseboard heat?

FINE/LINE 30

The science of better heating—Our hot water boiler-baseboard perimeter systemsurrounds you and your family with heating comfort. It isthe most efficient, most comfortable heating system ofall. Here’s why it’s better than forced air, electric heat orheat pumps:• Cleaner, healthier heat — baseboard heat is a sealedsystem; dust, dirt and germs are not blown throughout the house as with forced air systems.• Gentle, draft-free heating — natural convectionperimeter heating blocks chilling drafts at the outsidewalls where they originate. No ducts blowing air creatingadditional drafts.• Room by room comfort — you control the heat ineach room with adjustable baseboard dampers.Baseboard heating systems are also easier to zone thanforced air systems, so you only send heat to roomswhere you want it.

• Quieter — No bothersome noisy air ducts or blowerfans cycling on and off. Unique self-adjusting expansioncradles and interlocking fin design smothers pings, clicksand other heating expansion noises.• Quicker response — baseboard heating respondsquickly to your room thermostat’s call for heat, maintaining a constant comfort level. No lengthy warm-uprequired.• Better fuel economy — virtually no heat wastedbetween the boiler and the radiators. Lots of heat is lostthrough forced air heating ducts. Electric heating is costly.Choose oil or gas boilers to provide hot water to thebaseboard.• Slim profile — for decorating freedom. Our compactSlant/Fin baseboard won’t interfere with placement offurniture and drapes. The architecturally “neutral” designis compatible with any style home.• Rugged and durable — Fine/Line 30 is the onlyresidential baseboard made with commercial grade, rust resistant galvanized steel. It has heavier gaugepanels and internal support brackets than ordinarybaseboard, so it stands up to everyday hazards suchas vacuum cleaners and playful kids.

Leading the way in design andengineeringWhy Slant/Fin is preferred by heating experts—Slant/Fin leads the industry with baseboard heating innovations. Fingertip control dampers, hinged telescopicaccessories, plastic expansion cradles and Zip-strip cartons are all Slant/Fin firsts. From die formed steel bracketsto durable baked enamel finish, the quality you see in Slant/Fin baseboard reflects our commitment to excellence.Experts agree that Slant/Fin leads the way in variety, quality and ease of installation.

Engineered for excellence.

2. Super-strong enclosurewon’t go out of shape underrough abuse or even when usedas a step by children. The superstrong Slant/Fin enclosure holdsits shape through installation andyears of use. Prime, cold-rolled,rephosphorized, heavy-gauge,galvanized steel is formed intorigid front panel and one-piecebottom, back and top panel.Channels formed along top andbottom edge of front panel addextra structural strength.

3. Rust resistant galvanized steel is standard on all Fine/Line 30baseboard. The special alloys andrust inhibitor finish used in makingFine/Line 30 ensure that theenclosures will maintain theirlike-new beauty, even in highmoisture areas such asbathrooms, basements andlaundry rooms. No otherresidential baseboard offersthis long lasting protection.

1. High strength supportbrackets.Slant/Fin’s heavy gauge steelsupport bracket is shaped by aseries of progressive die strikeswhich multiply the strength of themetal alone. The bracket becomesa powerful “spine” for the entireunit, holding cover, element anddamper vane securely in place.Brackets can’t pop out of place, yet may be slid laterally forinstallation convenience. Supportwedge at top of bracket reinforcestop panel against damage. Half-moon cutout provides room forreturn line.

4. Room control damperhelps control individual room tem-perature. Slant/Fin’s unique pivotand damper mounting assemblyprovide the straightest, mostresponsive damper available.Factory assembled. Holds anysetting from fully open to fullyclosed or any setting in-between.Ordinary baseboard dampers mayleave large spaces even whenclosed. The Slant/Fin damper, when closed, effectively reducesconvection air flow.

5. High performance heatingelement. Maximum heatoutput. Fins won’t loosen.Double bent aluminum finspack extra heating surface in aslimmer enclosure. Interlockingtongue-and-groove collarspermanently bond fins to eachother and to the tubing. Stops“pings and clicks”. Tight bondassures maximum heat-transferefficiency. End fins are of platedsteel for extra ruggedness.

6. No-noise expansion cradles. Self-adjusting velvet smoothexpansion cradles eliminatenoisy metal-to-metal contact withbracket and enclosure. Cradleslides silently over supportbracket as heating elementexpands and contracts.

Wall streakage eliminated. Top panel and damper form a shield to keep dust from settling into baseboard interior, and todeflect heated air away from the wall, into the room. Back panel has no holes or slits to leak air behind the back of thebaseboard causing wall streakage.

Replace old radiators with modern low-profile baseboard. Give yourself decorating freedom by installing low-profileSlant/Fin baseboard in place of your old hot water radiators. You’ll have more wall space and you are free to locate furni-ture and drapes near or even touching the baseboard heating. To replace steam radiators, use Slant/Fin Multi/Pak 80baseboard.

Zip-Strip carton zips open in seconds.Baseboard comes out of the carton fullyassembled, ready to nail. No jigsaw puzzleof parts. No cutting to fit.

Slant/Fin's T-shot nailer reaches through thedamper opening to drive a nail high up on theback panel where it offers the most support. Youdon't even have to remove the front panel to nailup the baseboard. Or use power drill with self-tapping screws.

Heating contractor: Complete your baseboardinstallations with less effort and less time.Fine/Line 30 is designed for fast, simple, economical installation from the minute you zip open the first cartonto the second you snap on the last accessory. You make the best looking, most cost-effective baseboardinstallation possible. Without cutting corners.Without unexpected labor costs. Take advantage of these Slant/Fin featuresfor a better installation.

Slant/Fin's selection of pre-cut lengths andtelescopic accessories lets you fit "standard"Slant/Fin products to virtually any field condi-tion, for easy, neat wall to wall fit without cut-ting. With the 31⁄2' baseboard length, you canfigure your runs in half-foot increments. Noone offers greater selection, versatility andquality for baseboard accessories thanSlant/Fin. Telescoping accessories make upthe odd inches. 7" and 14" filler sleeves alsofill gaps up to a foot.

Drawn steel end caps and wall trim have elegant roundededges (instead of welded seams) to give your installation amore distinctive look. Wall trim conceals top, front and sidefor a more finished look than ordinary wall trim that has noside contour. Has the same appearance as a hinged endcap, except the side is slotted for passage of the tubing.

Quality enamel finish perfectly matches thebaseboard color to give a harmonious look toyour finished job. Every accessory has thick, even paint coverage. No streaks. No splotches.Even the inside is thoroughly protected withpaint for years of rust-free beauty. Full backpanel on end caps, wall trim etc.

Snap-on, hinged accessoriesswing up for easy access to air vents andheating element or for removal of the frontpanel— even when wall material covers theaccessory top. Precision piano hinges lastfor years.

Slant/Fin baseboard can be installedflush to the wall or recessed for a moreconcealed look.

Turn corners easily. It’s easy to shape your owninside corner when the standard 90˚ or 135˚ cornerswon’t fit. Our field adaptable inside corner is easilyshaped on the job for a perfect fit at bay windows orany other place with unusually angled corners.

2" splice plateincluded free with lengths 5’ and longer, provides continuity between close fittingbaseboard sections.

Riser hole template, included free in everybaseboard package, lets you quickly mark thecorrect location for floor riser holes or wallholes for straight-through runs. Recommendedhole diameter allows room for lateralexpansion movement of the riser.

Flared element tube—facilitates joining of baseboardsections. Right end of eachelement tube is flared to accepttubing from adjacent baseboardor 3⁄4" system tubing.

Vented return bend. Special 180˚bend aligns return line perfectly withhalf-moon cutouts in supportbrackets. A 1⁄8" threaded tappingpermits easy installation of air vent, can also serve as a drain

Wire hangers— provide support for bare tube indummy enclosures or for return tubing aboveheating element.

Riser rings — provide a neat, clean, sanitary seal where risers come up throughfloor. Wax loaded neoprene acts to cushionexpansion squeaks and vibration noises.Split collar allows easy installlation at anytime, even after connections are made.

Fast/Flex connectors can be hand formed aroundobstructions, go through tight spots and make up forany misalignment between baseboard and piping. Here, one Fast/Flex replaces three elbows and threelengths of tubing, eliminating much measuring andfitting. (See Pub. No. EC-FF-10 for additional data.)
