Holders of the Lebanese Baccalaureate or its equivalent (French Baccalaureate, International Baccalaureate, GCE, etc.) qualify for consideration for admission to the sophomore class at AUB. Admission to the sophomore class is based on a composite score generated from SAT Reasoning scores (Critical Reading and Mathematics) and standardized school averages for grades 10 and 11. Standardization of school grades is based on class size, rank (if available) and average of applicant compared to class average. Since admission is competitive depending on the major sought, applicants are urged to apply to more than one faculty (up to three faculties) and to more than one major per faculty (up to three majors if available). It is also advisable that applicants take the SAT more than once so that their chances of being admitted may improve. An applicant may be offered admission to more than one major (one major per faculty) and must decide upon one choice of major by the end of June. An applicant may not apply to more than three faculties and up to three majors per faculty, please indicate your order of preference (Major No. 1 is your first choice).

Form 2a
The Freshman Year Program is designed for students who hold a secondary school certificate based on 12 years of schooling, starting from Elementary I, and who have not completed the Lebanese Baccalaureate Part II or the French Baccalaureate (holders of the Baccalaureate Part II or the French Baccalaureate may not apply to the freshman class). Completion of the freshman year at AUB is required (in lieu of these secondary diplomas) for admission to a major and promotion to the sophomore class in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences or admission to the equivalent classes in the other faculties. Students who have completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma, the GCE in required subjects, the German Abitur, or similar programs may apply to either the freshman class or the sophomore or equivalent classes, depending upon the subjects taken and the level of performance. If they apply to the freshman class, they may receive advanced placement and credit in particular subjects for excellent performance in those subjects. For full information about the requirements for admission to and completion of the freshman year, please consult the admissions section of the 2016–17 Catalogue.
Each year the University enrolls approximately 400 new students in the challenging Freshman Year Program. Most students spend two semesters completing the 30 required freshman credits; some students spend a longer or shorter time depending upon the level of preparation with which they enter and the quality of their performance in the freshman year. The Freshman Year Program gives students with twelve years of schooling the opportunity to move more comfortably from secondary school to the university level, to make a better informed choice of a major field, and to gain a sound preparation for professional school.
Freshman Applicants To be completed only by applicants to the Freshman Year Program
Form 2b
Special Instructions for applicants to the Freshman ClassThis year, the AUB Office of Admissions will be giving special attention to students applying for the freshman year. We will be looking for those students who are most likely to succeed academically at AUB, but also who might have a special interest, talent, or leadership quality which would enrich the social, artistic, and intellectual climate on campus. A student’s composite score (school grades and SAT scores) will of course be the most important element of a student’s application. But the new Freshman Admissions Committee will also look closely at the full, written application, in order to assess various personal factors that could contribute to a student’s ability to succeed at AUB.
Each application will receive a full and careful reading by selected members of the faculty as well as by admissions officers. It is therefore important that students complete the full application below, so that the readers can get to know each applicant as fully as possible.
Admission to the freshman class at AUB is based on:
• A calculation of 50 percent of the high school GPA for grades 10 and 11, and 50 percent of the SAT I score (Critical Reading + Mathematical reasoning sections).
• A consideration of personal qualities and academic motivation, as determined by your completed application and personal statement, and the recommendations from your teachers and school counselor.
Your application will be considered when all of the information requested below is submitted:
• SAT scores and items required under “Academic Qualifications”• Items 1–6 under “Personal Qualities”
Academic QualificationsYour counselor or school principal must
• provide official copies of your transcripts for grades 10 and 11 • fill out the information required below
Please make sure that you give form 3 of the application to your counselor.
