ARCSA Inspired

Alec Janda, student at Ohio State University and accredited ARCSAmember, installed the first rainwater catchment system there, and wasinspired to do so from attending the annual ARCSA conference. He created the idea when he was a freshman and attended the UndergraduateAdmission's First Year Experience Conference. Alec partnered with RainBrothers to build a small-scale greenhouse, using pipe and sediment and aUV filtration system to catch water and send it to bladders alongside thegreenhouse. The greenhouse allows 10,000 gallons of water to be used toirrigate landscaping on campus. Alec facilitated all the meetings between Rain Brothers and the University, and received the appropriate permissions to complete the project. Alecsought out and secured funding for the project which, in all, took two yearsto complete. Rain Brothers were so impressed by his persistent approachand success in making this project a reality, that they hired him as staff attheir organization. Alec stated, "The entire experience was a lesson inpatience and persistence, but most of all passion. Don't be afraid to go find
