Season of ChangeChange is in the air. We can feel fall coming with
our cooler mornings and looking forward to a canvasof colors for our enjoyment ... although it is sad to seeour summer go, it is something that has to occur. Likethe changes of seasons, we, too, have had manyevents that have changed our plans. Without change, there would be no butterflies. That’s what I remindmyself when I’m unwilling to embrace and look aheadat what’s at the end of change ... I look back at themany events that have changed us this year. Somehave been sad with the loss of our loved ones. Wehave said farewell and best wishes to old friends, yetwe have been blessed with many new residents thatwe call friends. We welcome Chef Ron C. as ourCulinary Director, Theresa D. in Housekeeping, MaryD. as Culinary Server and Kim H. as our new OfficeAssistant/Housekeeper Supervisor. Power/washingand staining of our decks, driveway sealing andstripes, and soon we will have sparkling cleanwindows inside and out. Thank you, American House, for taking such great care of us. Thank you, staff, forall your help in making this happen, and to all theresidents here at American House Milford, thank youfor your patience. Remember, when things seem likethey are falling apart, they are actually falling intoplace ...
Your Executive Director,Deb Rush

Becoming a SeniorMy daughter is fast approaching
her 60th birthday and already hassecured an AARP membershipwelcoming her into a new world ofdiscounts and an information basefor this phase of life. The word“senior” has a variety of concepts ...elder (Native American) ... retirementyears. In high school, the word“senior” signified our last yearmoving on ... heading for the future ...moving forward!
When I hit the 60th mark, the word“senior” was negative. My ownmother hated the word so much, sheorganized a social group at herchurch (at age 80) and called itFifty Plus!
My entrance to the senior worldwas at the Golden Agers Club. I didnot know a soul, but was hopeful tomake new friends. The only activitywhich appealed to me was tabletennis. At the invitation of three kindlyand empathetic gentlemen, I joinedthem in a game. What I had chalked
up to be kindness turned out to bemeanness, as my opponentcontinued to serve the ball justbarely over the net. Every returnshot caused me to lean into thetable just a little bit more until thetable collapsed to the floor.
The guys laughed ... I didn’t ... Iquietly crept out of the roomheaded for the exit and home!!
