ColonistsColonists In fear of being attacked by their enemy Spain, the Carolinas needed

more colonists. This was also to increase it’s economic development.

The lords proprietor tried to bribe English settlers with a lot of land, and also by making it a place for freedom of religion. People were aloud to practice any religion excluding atheism and were forbidden to slander any other religion.

The colonists grew from 200 to about 6,600. Each family member was given 150 acres of land.

Eventually North Carolina became governed separately and Charles town was run by the goose creek men.

Most of the Lords Proprietor was bough out in 1729

Gun TradeGun Trade

In order to manage the Indians they turned them into slave catchers. Native Indians would hunt other Indians to sell as slaves or capture runaway African slaves. They did this in exchange for guns and ammunition. If they did not participate they would be at risk of being hunted and defeated by other Indians.

The Indians traded with the Carolinas. They traded animal hides and slaves in exchange for cloth, knives, rum and guns.

Having guns available enabled them to kill more deer for trade.
