CAROUSEL CARVING OF AMERICAN GOLDEN ERA ANIMALS

The American Carousel Golden Era was 1880-1929 when the animals were mostly carved from wood.These are of great interest to many, including wood carvers. In this catalog, you will find some of thegreat designs, but not all of them. I can produce an "Enhanced Cut Out" or E.C.O. (this stage of

development is my own design), or a Rough Out (R.O.). I also sell fully carved, rough but not finalsanded, figures. In addition to full figures that I can up-size or down-size, I offer restoration parts such asleg sets in either ECO or RO or Fully Carved (F.C.) stages.

A few words about Enhanced Cut-Outs (ECO), Rough-Outs (RO), and Fully Carved (F.C.) used in thiscatalog.

1. ENHANCED CUT OUTS (E.C.O.)

The ECO is mid-way between a cut-out and a rough-out. Waste wood on edges and sides isremoved, joints are carefully dry fitted, carving blocks are glued up, and pole hole and tail holesare drilled. Good quality basswood is used and on a full-sized figure will require 100-110 boardfeet. A good portion of my time will be spent making patterns and templates, engineering, cut-out, glue up, fitting joints, and general shaping. Your animal will be delivered in shaped blocksthat can be carved and then glued together when you are ready. For a horse, the shaped blocksinclude the body block, separate blocks for legs, tail, neck, and head. A picture, general pattern,and templates as well as an article on carving this animal will be included. At this stage it isestimated you will save 1/3 of "grunt" time as mentioned above.

2. ROUGH OUTS (R.0)

THE RO includes all of the ECO steps plus general shaping of the animal to the point where youcan begin carving the trappings and major body features. You have the choice of either receivingthe animal in shaped blocks or totally glued together. Note: the animal in shaped blocks is easierto carve and rough sand than a whole animal, and it ships more economically in blocks. At thisstage it is estimated you will save upwards of 1/3 of your total carving time on the animal.

3. FULLY CARVED (F.C.)

I will carve the RO consulting periodically with you. The animal is fully glued together. A poleand working base will be included. You will receive a fully carved animal that is rough sanded.You will need to do the final sanding and apply finish.

4. RESTORATION PARTS

Leg sets, heads, etc. sometimes are damaged on original animals and I offer these particular parts inthe ECO, RO, and FC stages. Considerable conferring is necessary to accomplish this task together.

It is difficult to price your ECO, RO or FC or Restoration Parts until I know what VARIABLES you wishin your animal order. For instance, the style whether Coney Island, Philadelphia/Dentzel, or County Fair,the stance of the animal (whether stander, jumper, or prancer), the size you want (12", 24", 30", 36", 55-72") and other is desired. When you tell me what you want thru filling out the project order sheet in the

back of this catalog, I can quote you a definite price. I produce quality products for a fair price. Thematerial and my time are well worth the savings to you in time, materials and construction.

Upgrades on your animal are possible and include glass eyes, brass pole, stirrups and leather mountstraps, metal bit, hair tail, metal horseshoes, and rhinestones on the body. What I do not have available

can be purchased from other vendors.
