CyberKnife® Overview CyberKnife stereotactic radiosurgery is a treatment option for cancerous and noncancerous lesions. This non-invasive treatment delivers high-dose radiation to tumors from different angles adjusting for tumor and patient movement during treatment. Traditional radiation treatments are unable to deliver high dose radiation without exposing a large margin of surrounding tissue to the radiation. As a result, treatment often occurs over many sessions (up to 45 treatment days) using low doses of radiation. Conversely, CyberKnife uses its advanced tracking system to target tumors from multiple angles and deliver high doses of radiation over a shorter course of time, specifically no more than five treatment sessions. Utilizing this approach, healthy tissues are minimally exposed to the radiation resulting in few to no side effects and return to normal activities right after treatment.

Brain Cancer & CyberKnife Treatment CyberKnife Center of Chicago treats brain and nervous system tumors in patients who cannot tolerate surgery, have an inoperable tumor, or are seeking an alternative to surgery. Unlike some radiosurgery systems, the CyberKnife does not use an invasive head frame. Other radiosurgery systems are capable of high-dose radiation treatment with a variety of radiation sources. However, some use a metal frame attached to the patient’s skull with screws that immobilizes the head to accurately target the tumor. There is no need for the immobilization head frame with the CyberKnife system.

Treatment is delivered by CyberKnife Center of Chicago’s radiation oncologist and highly trained staff. CyberKnife provides a non-invasive, painless and comfortable treatment with no recovery time.
