American Business Council Hosts Country Spotlight on Iraq
DUBAI – APRIL 25, 2013
On Tuesday April 23, The American Business Council of Dubai & the Northern Emirates joined business
leaders from the U.S. and the U.A.E for Country Spotlight on Iraq, the first in a series of Country
Spotlight events aimed at maximizing Dubai’s potential as a regional trade hub.
Hosted and organized by the American Business Council of Dubai & the Northern Emirates (the
“American Business Council”), a chapter of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the conference highlighted
the importance of maximizing those unique opportunities given to companies operating in Dubai and
using Dubai as a business gateway to the region, which serves as the inspiration for the Country Spotlight
series. The conference featured a panel of experts who discussed the business climate and logistical, legal,
security and safety aspects of doing business, and Dubai Exports closed the conference with an overview
of the Dubai export/import market and their contributions to developing long-term growth strategies to
expand businesses and maximize the opportunities given by Dubai’s position as a natural trade gateway.
A major highlight of the conference was the C-level panel of experts discussion moderated by Ramsey
Jurdi, President of the American Business Council, with participation from Dr. Ashraf Mahate – Head of
Export Market Intelligence for Dubai Exports, Bruce Larson – Country Manager of Iraq for the Harris
Corporation and Chairman of the Baghdad Overseas Security Advisory Council (O.S.A.C), John V.
Lonsberg – Partner in Charge of the Middle East for Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P., and Kyle Stelma –
Emerging Markets Managing Director of Dunia Frontier Consultants.
The American Business Council will use the success of this inaugural event to build more Country
Spotlight programs, highlighting the regions that companies and individuals operating in Dubai wish to
increase business relations with.
