America ComparedCultural Change in the 1920’s

“Roaring 20’s”
The “Roaring 20’s” was a loose morality movement coming on the heels of WWI. Mass produced consumer goods and advertising created “want” instead of “need” in the American public. Fantasy and comedy experienced through silent movies also helped create the cultural change. European movie stars also helped push the envelope to loosen stiff American values while showing that they can retain respectability.
European Influence With the popular European stars and their accents
came different moral values on race, alcohol, fashion, smoking, and religion.
Just as Europeans were fascinating the American moviegoers, American jazz music was fascinating the French. Discussions, clubs, and the intoxicating music kept Parisians crowding cabarets.
