BRIEF INTRODUCTION
Amer Palace is located in Amerlocated high on a hill 11
fromJaipur, Rajasthanstate, India.
Amer Fort was built by Raja an !ingh I.
"nown for its artistic style of #indu elements. $ith its large ramparts, series
of gates and cobbled paths, the fort o%erloo"s the aota &a"e, at its forefront
ARCHITECTURE
'he Palace is di%ided into four main sections each with its own entry gate and
courtyard.

ain entry is through the !uraj Pole )!un +ate* which leads to Jaleb how",
which is the -rst main courtyard. 'his was the place where armies would hold
%ictory parades with their war bounty on their return from battles, which were
also witnessed by the Royal family women fol" through the latticed windows.
'his gate was built eclusi%ely and was pro%ided with guards as it was the
main entry into the palace.
It faced the eastern direction towards the rising !un and hence the name.
Royal ca%alcades and dignitaries entered the palace through this gate. /10
Jaleb how" is an Arabicusage, which means a place for soldiers to
assemble. 'his is one of the four courtyards of the Amer Palace, which was
built during !awai Jai !ingh2s reign )134561785 A9
At this location, the horse stables were also located where its upper le%el
rooms were occupied by the guards./13

An impressi%e stairway from the Jaleb how" leads into the main palace
grounds.
+anesh Pol or the +anesh +ate, is the entry into the pri%ate palaces of the
aharajas. It is a three le%el structure which has many frescoes and was also
built at the orders of the iruarters of the royal family.
Abo%e this gate is the !uhag andir where ladies of the royal family used to
watch through the latticed windows functions held in the 9iwan?i?Am. /13

@n the right side of the Jaleb how" there is a small but an elegant temple
called the !ila 9e%i )an incarnation of alior 9urga* temple.
'he entrance to the temple is through sil%er sheet co%ered double leaf gate
with raised relief. 'he main deity inside the sanctum is Ban"ed by two lions
made in sil%er.
Second courtyard/edit
'he second courtyard, up the main stairway of the -rst le%el courtyard,
houses the 9iwan?i?Am or the Public Audience #all.
Cuilt with double row of columns, the 9iwan?i?Aam is a raised platform with
=7 colonnades, each of which is mounted with elephant shaped capital with
galleries abo%e it.

'he third courtyard is where the pri%ate >uarters of the aharaja, his family
and attendants were built.
'his courtyard is entered through the +anesh Pol or +anesh +ate, which is
embellished with mosaics and sculptures.
'he courtyard has two buildings, one opposite to the other, separated by a
garden laid in the fashion of the ughal +ardens.

'he building to the left of the entrance gate is called the Jai andir, which is
e>uisitely beauti-ed with glass inlaid panels and multi?mirrored ceilings. 'he
mirrors are of con%e shape and designed with coloured foil and paint which
would glitter bright under candle nights at the time it was in use.
Also "nown as !heesh ahal )mirror palace*, the mirror mosaics and
coloured glasses were Dglittering jewel bo in Bic"ering candle lightD. ar%ed marble relief panels are placed on walls around the hall.

'he other building seen in the courtyard is opposite to the Jai andir and is
"nown as the !u"h Eiwas or !u"h ahal )#all of Pleasure*.
'his hall is approached through asandalwooddoor with marble inlay wor"
with perforations.
A piped water supply Bows through an open channel that runs through this
edi-ce "eeping the en%irons cool, as in an air conditioned en%ironment. 'he
water from this channel was led into the garden.

A particular attraction here is the magic BowerG fresco car%ed in marble atthe base of one of the pillars around the mirror palace which is identi-ed by
two ho%ering butterBies depictionH the Bower has se%en uni>ue designs of
-sh tail, a lotus, a hooded cobra, an elephant trun", a lion2s tail, a cob of corn
and a scorpion, each is %iewed by a particular way of partial hiding of the
