August 2006 and in pursuance of the provisions of Section 27 of the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University Act, 1998 (9 of 1998), the Board of
Management of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, hereby makes the followingamendments in University’s Ordinance 10 (Conduct and Evaluation of Examinations for
programmes leading to all Bachelor’s Degrees following the Annual System of Examination), Ordinance 11 (Conduct and Evaluation of Examinations for programmes
leading to all Bachelor’s / Master’s Degrees And Under-Graduate/ Post-GraduateDiplomas following Semester System), Ordinance 21 (Conduct and Evaluation of
Examinations for Master’s Degree programmes in (i) Archaeology & HeritageManagement (ii) Conservation, Preservation & Heritage Management), Ordinance 25
(Conduct and Evaluation of Examinations for weekend programme leading to allBachelor’s/ Master’s Degrees & Under-Graduate/ Post-Graduate Diplomas following
Semester System), Ordinance 27 (Conduct and Evaluation of Examinations forprogrammes leading to all Master’s Degrees following the Annual System of
Examination) and Ordinance 29 (Conduct and Evaluation of Examinations for Master’sDegrees following Trimester System), so as to resolve the problems of the students who
fail to complete the different academic programmes in the laid down maximum durationof the programme, as also to facilitate the implementation of Choice Based Credit System
in the University.

(iii) If a student has poorperformance in a numberof courses in a particularsemester, he may, at hisoption, take an academicbreak for one year, andreregister for either boththe semesters of thatacademic year in the next

Only two academic breaks arepermissible for a student forthe completion of theacademic programme/course.In no situation a student willbe allowed to take more thantwo academic breaks, for anyreason whatsoever, includingfor the reasons of detentionfor shortage of attendance or
deficiency of credits duringthe whole term of completionof the course/programme. Astudent who has exhaustedtwo academic breaks and afurther occasion arises for himor her to take academic breakbecause of non promotion ordetention, in such cases theadmission of such studentwould automatically standcancelled right at the time
such an occasion of more thantwo academic breaks arises.

A candidate who has earnedthe minimum number of creditsprescribed in the concernedScheme of Teaching & Examination and Syllabi, shallbe declared to have passed theprogramme, and shall beeligible for the award of therelevant degree or diploma.The Scheme of Teaching & Examination and Syllabi shallclearly specify the minimumcredits to be earned to qualifyfor a degree or diploma. Thecredits included in the Schemeof Teaching & Examination andSyllabi of a programme shallgenerally be 5-10% more thansuch minimum specified
credits.
A candidate who has earnedthe minimum number of credits prescribed in theconcerned Scheme of Teaching& Examination and Syllabi,either entirely from theconcerned University School of
Studies/ Affiliated Institute/Centre for Learning & Education or including thosecredits which have beentransferred after earning themfor one semester/ semestersfrom any other Universityoperating in and outside Indiaand with which MoU has beendone by the GGS Indraprastha
University, shall be declared tohave passed the programme,and shall be eligible for the
award of the relevant degreeor diploma. The Scheme of Teaching & Examination andSyllabi shall clearly specify theminimum credits to be earnedto qualify for a degree ordiploma. The credits includedin the Scheme of Teaching & Examination and Syllabi of aprogramme shall generally be5-10% more than suchminimum specified creditssubject to prescribed
guidelines of the concernedstatutory or regulatoryauthority, if any.
11 13 (i) A student shall be awarded adegree/diploma if:
(i) He/she has registeredhimself/ herself,undergone the course of studies, completed theproject report/dissertation specified inthe curriculum of his/ herprogramme within thestipulated time, andsecured the minimumcredits prescribed foraward of the concerneddegree/diploma.
(i) He /she has registeredhimself/ herself,undergone the entireprogramme of studies inany one of the University’sSchools of Studies/affiliated institute includingone semester/semestersfor which prescribedequivalent credits havebeen got transferred byanother University locatedin India or abroad and withwhich GGS IndraprasthaUniversity has signed an

MoU. In case, theprogramme of studies ismore than one semester inother University, a jointdegree approach may beworked out on the basis of credit transfer.
The above amendments in the ordinances have come into force with effect from thedate of approval by the Board of Management.
