Banque Libano Française LF Total Return Bond Fund records a net return of 14.2%

Since its inception in September 2012 until the end of December 2014, the Banque Libano-Française (BLF) LF Total Return Bond Fund generated a net cumulative return of 14.2%.

“We were able to generate an impressive net return of 5.25% to our investors in 2014 despite the global environment of low yields. The consistency in returns coupled with their low volatility, created an attractive investment alternative to cash, suitable for both individuals and institutions, and helped us double assets under management to $64 million last year,” said Jamil Koudim, Portfolio Manager and Head of the Fixed Income Unit at BLF.

Launched in 2012, The LF Total Return Bond Fund offers high net worth individuals and institutional investors the possibility to invest

in international markets. Subscribers to this Fund benefit from a domiciliation in a highly-regulated and transparent environment, weekly liquidity, and access to global markets and opportunities which are otherwise inaccessible to individual investors. The Fund’s o b j e c t i v e is also to generate an optimal risk/adjusted return by investing in global credit m a r k e t s , whereby at least 80% is allocated to i n v e s t m e n t grade bonds.

Citi Lebanon Runs for a World without Breast Cancer

As part of i n c r e a s i n g h e a l t h a w a r e n e s s , Citi Lebanon participated in the “Banque du Liban Beirut M a r a t h o n ” where Citi staff

and families gathered to run for the Lebanese Breast Cancer Foundation in support of one cause: fighting breast cancer.

This initiative proved to be a successful and inspiring opportunity to unite in honor of breast cancer survivors and to raise awareness about early detection. Funds raised in the marathon helped the Lebanese Breast Cancer Foundation lead the fight against this disease with pioneering research and support for patients. “Participating

in this year’s marathon did not only aim at promoting a healthy and active lifestyle; we felt a current of hope and pride on the race course, knowing that every step we took is helping women and men battling breast cancer,” stated Elissar Farah Antonios, Chief Executive Officer for Citi Lebanon.

From screening and diagnosis to prevention and treatment, from supporting research to supporting people fighting the disease, the Lebanese Breast Cancer Foundation contributed to decreasing the number of advanced-stage breast cancer cases, thus increasing the chances for cure. In support of this mission, Citi Lebanon will donate an amount of $3,000 for the treatment of underprivileged women suffering from breast cancer.

Philip Morris Lebanon Signs MoU with the Regie Libanais des Tabacs et Tombacs to

Help Secure Sustainable Tobacco ProductionIn light of poor living conditions, low awareness of good agricultural practices and social norms to follow on tobacco farms in the southern part of Lebanon where Philip Morris sources its tobacco crop, Philip Morris Lebanon contacted the local tobacco growers’ syndicate and the Regie Libanaise de Tabacs et Tombacs to propose the implementation of PMI’s Sustainable Tobacco Production program, otherwise known as the ‘Good Agricultural Practices program’ (GAP) spanning three key pillars: (i) crop, (ii) environment, and (iii) people (the social aspect, otherwise known as PMI’s ‘Agricultural Labor Practices program (ALP).

As a result PM Lebanon invited a delegation of field technicians and the Agricultural Director for Sustainable Tobacco Production from the Regie Libanaise to a workshop which aimed to discuss and agree upon a joint five-year strategy to bolster Lebanon’s critical tobacco leaf production. Regie

and PMI then committed to implement PMI’s sustainable tobacco production initiative from February 2014 onwards. Part of this commitment saw the need for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to be agreed upon between PM Lebanon and the Regie, focusing on helping Lebanese tobacco growers sustain their livelihoods by raising their social and agricultural awareness of standards set out within the ALP program and by empowering them to make the desired behavioral changes on the farm. Both parties signed the landmark MoU on December 9, 2014.

Upon signing the MoU, Roman Yazbeck, Vice President of North Africa and the Levant at PMI, commented: “I am pleased to sign this Memorandum of Understanding that reinforces our strategic partnership with the Regie Libanaise and its administration. This memorandum will enhance the sustainability of tobacco farming, a vital sector in Lebanon.”
