CIE Student Ambassador Program description:

The program will be will consist of about 15-20 Ambassadors volunteering hours

towards the Center for International Education and the International Education

Exchange Council, including events, programming, and other work within those bodies.

These Ambassadors will be made up of current SSU students who are CSU IP, NSE, and

NSE Study Abroad Alumni, as well as international and international/domestic exchange

students at SSU.

To ensure an even opportunity for learning and experience, Ambassadors will be divided

into a committee structure. There will be three committees, (descriptions below,) that

will have about 5 ambassadors in each committee. There will be one Ambassador

Committee Chair for each committee and four to five Ambassador Committee Members.

Every two weeks for 1.5 – 2 hours, the Ambassador Program will meet to:

1) Discuss the current events going on in the office and important information.

2) To participate in discussions and workshops focusing on developing professional

skills. Examples of students will be practicing are:

*Professional Leadership: working in groups, handling conflict, leadership styles, etc.

*Computer skill proficiency utilizing various software and online programs including

social media

*Career development: job search preparation, resume building, interview skills

*Workplace expectations and performance: behavior, using constructive criticism, etc.

Additionally, to further learning and opportunity, professional development is built into

the overarching structure of the program.

The Center for International Education commits to:

*Provide Ambassadors an opportunity to learn an environment that will both challenge

and support the student.

*Assist Ambassadors in learning necessary skills and experience for the individual’s

professional and academic development.

*Provide the Ambassador the opportunity to connect with other internationally minded

students on-campus as well as the opportunity to share their experiences.

*Assist Ambassadors in understanding how they can apply their international/domestic

exchange experience can apply to career development and opportunities.

Ambassador Roles:

Ambassadors:

Ambassadors are all members of the Ambassador Program who are not Ambassador

Committee Chairs or Lead Ambassadors. Ambassador program participation

commitments:

An average of 4 hours a week working as an Ambassador for the duration of the

semester. (An academic year commitment is preferred but not required.)

Attend mandatory bi-weekly ambassador meetings

Participate fully in activities and programs

Fulfill all commitments and responsibilities

Learn and have fun

Ambassador Committee Chairs:

Committee Chairs will work directly under the Lead Ambassadors and will serve as the

executive committee for the International Education Exchange Council (IEEC). Chairs will

also be the main coordinators for the responsibilities and programs of the committee

they oversee. Chairs will provide guidance, knowledge, and cohesion to the committee

and its members. Chairs must fulfill all Ambassador commitments, as well as be willing

to commit an additional average of two hours a week to the program to fulfill chair

duties.

Lead Ambassadors:

These two students will provide guidance for all Ambassadors as well as fulfil role as

Lead Student Assistant for the Center of International Education as a paid employee.

Lead Ambassadors will be the main point of contact for all Ambassadors as well as

oversee all Ambassador related activities. There should be one program alumni and one

international student Lead Ambassador. The Lead Ambassadors will also act as the

Co-Chairs for the International Education Exchange Council.

Committee descriptions:

Marketing and Outreach Committee:

This committee is responsible for all marketing and outreach activities and coordination

for the Center for International Education and the International Education Exchange

Council. These activities include but are not limited to: tabling for special on campus

events (Big Nite, club fairs, etc.), general club and office tabling throughout the year,

on-campus classroom presentations, off-campus community/high school presentations,

etc. This committee would also reach out to other internationally minded student clubs

on campus to create partnerships for events.

Engagement and Community Building Committee:

The responsibility of this committee is to create and coordinator programming to

engage the students of the Center for International Education and IEEC. These programs

include but are not limited to: special off-campus trips and activities, International

Buddies Program/Mentor Program, maintaining the weekly Coffee & Culture Hour, as

well as special on-campus activities and events.

Special Programming Committee:

This committee focuses on the overall professional development of its members

through specific experiences and opportunities. This committee’s members will focus on

gaining experience in general office skills, computer programs competency and ability,

as well as engage in long-term program planning and participation. The programs that

this committee will specifically assist in planning are: Go Global! Study & Work Abroad

Fair; Lessons from Abroad Conference; International Education Week, Welcome

Reception, and International Education Celebration.
