The Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program and the Texas 4-H Youth Development Foundation is once again pleased to offer to our senior high school 4-H members and current college students the opportunity to apply for an Op-portunity Scholarship through the Texas 4-H Youth Develop-ment Foundation. This year Texas 4-H members can apply for scholarships in three areas, baccalaureate, courageous heart, and technical. Former Texas 4-H members will be able to apply for scholarships through the collegiate scholarship program. All applications and support materials can be downloaded from the Texas 4-H website at: texas4-h.tamu.edu

Changes for the 2018 Texas 4-H Opportunity Scholarship Process Texas 4-H will continue to accept both old and new versions of SAT scores for the 2018 appli-cation process. Applicants must work directly with their school administrators to ensure they have quartile ranking for their application. A quartile ranking is required to be considered for a Texas 4-H Op-portunity Scholarship. Scholarship Interviews will be conducted in College Station in May, 2018. Dr. Toby Lepley will resume leadership as Scholarship Coordinator for 2018. Please direct all questions directly to Dr. Lepley or your District 4-H Specialists.

Due to a continued increase in incomplete and the incorrect completion of the scholarship applications from applicants, any incomplete or incorrect application submitted will not be considered. It is the responsibility of the 4-H member and parent/guardian to ensure all in-formation is correct and complete prior to submitting. Absolutely no follow up or updates will be allowed once submitted.

Due dates and deadlines for 2018 Scholarship process are as follows: January 5, 2018 Application due to County Office April 13, 2018 Interview selection notification May 4-6, 2018 Interviews in College Station, Texas June 12, 13, &/or 14, 2018 Awards Assemblies/Banquets (College Station, TX)

Requirements for the Baccalaureate, Technical, and Courageous Heart Scholarships All applications MUST meet the minimum requirements/criteria to even be considered for judging (see guidelines for complete details). Those applications not meeting the requirements should not be submitted to the county Extension Office and/or Agent.

GEAR Robotics Participation Regisitration is Now Open!

Welcome to the 2017-2018 TTU GEAR Robotics tournament season. We have an exciting season ahead of us. Dr. Karp is back from South Africa and we are delighted to have her back at the helm. Exciting ad-ditions have been made this season to help accommodate your scheduling and travel needs. This year, in addition to tournament sites being held at Texas Tech University and Midland, there will be an addi-tional tournament site hosted by Frenship ISD in Wolfforth, Texas. We also offer a Virtual GEAR compe-tition, in case you don’t want to travel at all or have teams that cannot make any of the tournament dates. To find out more about Virtual GEAR, please check out our website: http://www.depts.ttu.edu/coe/stem/gear/virtual.php

To participate in GEAR 2018, you must register your teams at https://goo.gl/forms/21r7v4lunmiMYBlo1. Registration closes December 22, 2017. Through this registration you in-form us that you will be participating in GEAR this year and indicate which tournament site you will be attending. You may select only one. (In addition, you may register 2 Virtual GEAR teams on the Virtual GEAR website mentioned above). The information you provide will help us plan this year’s activities and make preparations. THIS IS NOT YOUR GAME DAY REGISTRATION. The Game Day registration will be sent out at a later time.

Site Locations: You may select the site that best accomadates your travel and scheduling needs, but each site will have limited registration space available. We strongly recommend that you choose the tournament site closest to you.

The Texas Tech University site will be limited to 100 elementary and 100 middle school teams

Midland will limit regsitration to 100 teams total

Frenship ISD will accommodate 50 teams total

Each team must have a minimum of 3 students per team. A school/robotics program can participate with a maximum of 8 teams. We need the estimated number of participating teams for planning purpose only. You will have to confirm the exact number of teams participating in game day later.

Trial Run and Game Day Tournament Site Dates:

TTU will be hosting a joint kickoff event for all participants on the TTU campus on February 10, 2018. Winning teams from all three lo-cations will qualify for playoffs at TTU in Lubbock.
