Amazon Pueblo Presentation The Village of La Libertad, Amazonas, Colombia

description

La Libertad is a small indigenous village on the banks of the Amazon River, by the borders of Colombia, Brazil, and Peru. This presentation is about the efforts to bring sustainable, socially conscious business to the village. Simply raising money and giving the villagers things that will be used up or broken and thrown away is not the answer to the problems of the villagers. Helping them to create adequate income through good employment is necessary. The Amazon Pueblo project is dedicated to this goal.

2. IntroductionOur organization, Amazon Pueblo, is trying to help the indigenous villageof La Libertad to improve their quality of life. This village is located in theColombian Amazon, near the boarders of Colombia, Brazil, and Peru. After looking at the villages problems, we have found that giving themthings like water filtration systems, does not solve their problems. When the water filter breaks, no one knows how to repair it or has themoney to repair it. 3. Water filter that has been broken for 2 years 4. Our solution is to help the villagers develop sustainable, socially-conscious business. Theydo not want to drink contaminate water, bathe in sewerage, eat poorly, or sleepunprotected from mosquitos. When they have the resources, money, from their business, they will solve their own problems.Member of the working co-operative of La Libertad 5.
