Amazon Echo Setup
1. Plug in your Echo using its power cable. The ring light will turn blue and start spinning to let you
know it’s turned on. In around a minute, this blue light will turn orange, to signal the speaker is
in setup mode and Alexa will welcome you to the Amazon Echo. If the orange light doesn’t
appear, go to step 4.
2. Download the Amazon Alexa App from iOS (here)or Android (here). You can also access the app
from a browser (here).
3. The setup process should start automatically and you’ll be prompted to sign in with your
Amazon account email and password.
4. If the setup doesn’t start automatically, or the orange light doesn’t appear when you first switch
on your Amazon Echo, go to Settings and select Set up a new device.
5. Select your language and choose which device you are trying to set up from the list. This includes
Amazon Echo, Amazon Echo Dot, Amazon Echo Plus and Amazon Echo Tap in the UK.
6. The next step involves connecting the app to your Echo, and connecting your Echo to your Wi-Fi
network. On the Begin Echo setup screen click Connect to Wi-Fi. The orange ring should now
appear on your device. If the orange light still doesn’t appear, go to step 11.
7. Close the app, open Settings and go to Wi-Fi. If the phone has recognised your Amazon Echo
device you will see a Wi-Fi network with a name that starts: Amazon-XXX. It can take up to a
minute to appear in the list.
8. Selecting this Wi-Fi network will drop your phone from your main Wi-Fi network and connect it
directly to the Amazon Echo.
9. Once connected, you will be prompted to connect the Echo to your main Wi-Fi network. Enter
your Wi-Fi password when asked and Echo will join the network.
10. From this point on, any Echo device on the same network can communicate with each other and
with the Amazon Alexa app.
11. Orange light still not appearing? Press and hold the Action button for five seconds and go back
to step 7.

5. You will be redirected to a “My Comfort House” login page. Please login using your “Smart Home”
mobile application account, and click “yes” to authorize the account linking.
6. To find your skill at any time, you can click “Skills” -> “Your Skills” -> “Dev Skills”.
Test “My Comfort House” Skill
1. After the successful setup of your echo device and Alexa skill, you can start to say your
commands to Echo speaker.
2. You need to wake up the “My Comfort House” skill by saying the skill invocation name:
“Alexa, start my comfort house”
If you use other Echo's wake word, please change “Alexa” to your own wake word. You will hear
Echo’s reply: “Welcome to My Comfort House. Please say your command”.
3. Command list:
Assume device name is living room in App
0.1 who am I
1.1 turn my living room temperature to 20 degree
2.1 turn on my living room thermostat
2.2 turn off my living room thermostat
3.1 set my living room to away
3.2 set my living room to home
4.1 what is my living room temperature
4.2 what is the temperature in my living room
5.1 what is my living room set temperature
5.2 what is the set temperature in my living room
6.1 Hold my living room temperature at 22 degree for 2 hours
7.1 Cancel the hold time in living room
8.1 what is my living room humidity
8.2 what is the humidity in my living room
4. Point to note: please try defining your device name (in “Smart Home” mobile app) using a
proper room name, such as “living room”, “bed room”, “kitchen”, “toilet”… If the room name is
not a proper English word or a proper room name, sometimes Echo will have difficulties to
identify the correct device.
5. Point to note: given the flexibility and variation of spoken language in the real world, there will
often be many different ways to express the same request. For example, to check the
temperature a user might say:
what is the temperature in my living room
what is my living room temperature
tell me the temperature in my living room
However, Alexa firstly attempts to understand the command using the sample utterances which
are defined in Alexa skill. In the beta test version, only limited utterances are defined. So it’s
better to follow the sample given above, for Alexa to have a better understanding of your
commands.
